Nature of Work

The 2023 Coconino County Fair dates are Friday, September 1 – Monday, September 4. The fair is open 10:00 am – 10:00 pm Friday to Sunday and 10:00 am – 4:00 pm on Monday.

Superintendents and Assistant Superintendents must be able to work the four days of the Fair (dates and hours above) as well as receiving, judging, outtake and Fair Workday (8/19/2023). Superintendents are required to attend monthly planning meetings typically located at Fort Tuthill County Park in Flagstaff, AZ from January through August.

Please Note:
Assistant Superintendents are expected to work half the hours of the Superintendents.
These positions are temporary and do not include benefits.

Typical Duties

Superintendent - $538 stipend upon completion of the Fair

• 
  Attends monthly planning meetings located at Fort Tuthill from January through August.
• Oversees receiving, judging, outtake, and Fair Workday
• Manages their department's buildings, entries, and demonstrations
• Coordinates the recruitment of judges and volunteers
• Supervises the assigned building during fair hours

Assistant Superintendent - $269 stipend upon completion of the Fair

• Assists in receiving, judging, outtake, and Fair Workday
• Assists in managing their department's buildings, entries, and demonstrations
• Assists in providing supervision in the assigned building during fair hours

Essential functions include but not limited to sitting, standing, in close vicinity people and livestock, walking and bending; twisting, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling heavy loads up to 60 lbs.; working with and around event producers, supervisors, and other crew members; interruptions; repetitive motion (elbow/shoulder); vision acuity (near/far); hearing and speech for ordinary conversation; finger dexterity/touch. Environmental factors may include and not limited to work outside; noise exposure; use of mechanical devices; exposure to odors and dust.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires a background check.

The ideal candidate will be an effective communicator, reliable, and passionate about youth development. Proactive, optimistic team player, and have a positive attitude with the ability to multitask.

Preferred qualifications: Year-round residence inside Coconino County; experience working with the public and customer service experience. Valid Driver’s License; reliable transportation; experience working with youth for positions involving 4-H/FFA Club Work. Previous fair experience.

Knowledge of:
– Working with the public, primarily youth
– Supervising volunteers

Ability to:
– Deal effectively with stress caused by public contact
– Communicate effectively verbally and in writing with public
– Maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, fellow volunteers, and the public
– Work under limited supervision.
