Atmosphere Academy creates an "atmosphere" for learning in which students and teachers realize their potential as mindful leaders through enriching experiential learning and engaging coursework across all content areas. Atmosphere’s middle school offers students a rigorous academic curriculum, targeted instruction and engagement, advisory and restorative justice lessons, and engaging clubs and electives. Atmosphere’s high school offers students robust regents preparation, early college credit, extensive college knowledge, international travel opportunities, and a diverse array of career-focused classes and internships.
Community Engagement Manager
The Community Engagement Manager works alongside the Special Projects Operations Manager to support student recruitment and community engagement efforts. This is a unique opportunity for a mission-driven individual who is passionate about our strong academic program and career pathways and experiential learning initiatives. The Community Engagement Manager reports to and consults with the Chief Operating Officer and in some cases, the Chief Executive Officer.
Compensation
Salary for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience. Atmosphere Academy offers a comprehensive benefits package, which includes the following:
- Up to a 16% merit bonus based on annual goals and evaluation rating (at end of first full school year of employment)
- 401k plan with 5% employer matching (changing to 8% employer matching with a tuition reimbursement option in December)

Qualifications
- At least 3 years relevant professional work experience, ideally in a charter school or other K-12 education organization
- At least 2 years of direct experience successfully managing student recruitment and community engagement for a charter school or other K-12 education organization
- Alignment with Atmosphere’s mission and key design elements
- Ability to work weekends in order to run recruitment events such as open houses, while earning comp days to take as vacation later in the year
- Knowledge of the community surrounding Atmosphere’s school locations
- Strong interpersonal skills and track record of collaborating with diverse stakeholders
- Customer-service forward mindset in engaging with families and other key stakeholders
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
- Consistent record-keeping
- Strong communication, writing, and presentation skills
- Relentless determination to do whatever it takes to help current and prospective Atmosphere scholars succeed

Responsibilities
Student Recruitment
- Inform and directly communicate with families and communities about the life-changing program available to them at Atmosphere Academy
- Create and execute robust student recruitment plans to boost enrollment and drive revenue, allowing the school to educate as many students as possible
- Engage with the surrounding community on a regular basis through a variety of means to recruit new students and spread the word about Atmosphere
- Partner with elementary schools, middle schools, youth programs, afterschool centers and other community organizations to schedule visits, tabling opportunities and student recruitment presentations
- Distribute flyers, brochures, and other educational materials to potential partner schools through onsite visits
- Conduct various marketing activities and initiatives to drive applications and enrollment numbers
- Design many unique initiatives to market to families and ensure that Atmosphere is their first choice school
Registration and Enrollment
- Support the successful planning and administration of the enrollment lottery and the post-lottery communication with families
- Set up and carry out all registration events in conjunction with the Special Projects Operations Manager and Chief Operating Officer
- Coordinate registration for any incoming families, both before the school year begins and during the school year
- Ensure proper intake of enrollment documentation, such as registration packets, medical documents and other compliance documents
- Assist in the Pre-Registration process of incoming students via ATS
- Ensure all available seats are filled on the first day of school
Open Houses
- Assist in open house planning and coordination for prospective families, which take place on Saturdays
- Design and tweak Atmosphere’s open house presentations to align with new initiatives
- Deliver Atmosphere’s open house presentation to prospective families
- Assign coverage and staffing for all student recruitment events
- Create robust minute-by-minute documents that demonstrate how open houses and other recruitment events should run
- Administer family surveys to acquire feedback on Atmosphere’s enrollment events. Synthesize and analyze data from family feedback to improve practices
- Conduct quality control on open houses to ensure they run at a high standard
Community Outreach & Engagement
- Lead the operations team in community canvassing and working with local small businesses
- Help generate and cultivate meaningful relationships with local leaders and community-based organizations
- Coordinate with Atmosphere’s Parent Alliance on all endeavors and engagements
- Set up town halls for current and prospective families
- Keep community-based organizations informed of important highlights and current events about our school via emails and meetings
- Attend, participate and represent Atmosphere Academy at relevant community meetings and events
- Identify community resources and share with our school community
- Work with local agencies, such as the NYPD, FDNY, NYCHA, etc. to build partnerships and engage with community members
Advocacy
- Develop partnerships with elected officials to help advance key initiatives
- Keep elected officials informed of important news about our school through emails, meetings and onsite visits
- Invite, plan and execute school visits and opportunities for elected officials to see, experience and learn about Atmosphere Academy
