DEFINITION: This position performs difficult skilled work in construction, repair, and maintenance of the water and sewer system.
REPORTS TO: The Construction Crew Supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions.
HOURS: 6:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (4) four (10) Ten-hour days per week.

Assist in installation, repairs and maintenance to City's Water and Sewer System.
Assist in the Installation of, fire hydrants, water and sewer taps, meter boxes, etc.
Assist in daily preparation and restoration of Construction sites.
Repairs broken or damaged water or sewer mains.
Assist Crew Supervisor in daily assignments.
Operate various construction tools and equipment as needed.
Installs barricades and other traffic control devices.
Follows safety guidelines.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Completion of high school or equivalent.
Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
Possession of a current and valid driver's license an active and consecutive 3-year verifiable driving history. Driving history will be checked. (Must be able to be licensed in the State of North Carolina); with the ability to obtain a N.C. CDL Class B drivers license within (6) months of hire.
Previous experience in Maintenance and Construction of Water and Sewer utilities. Experience in Operation of Heavy Equipment.

Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of assigned tools and equipment.
Knowledge of City geography.
Knowledge of safety standards.
Skill in analyzing problems and identifying solutions.
Skill in the repair and maintenance of hand and power tools.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Crew Supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES: Guidelines include the Personnel Policy Manual; OSHA regulations; work zone safety standards; and equipment operation and repair manuals. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY: The work consists of related construction duties. Inclement weather and heavy traffic contribute to the complexity of the work.
SCOPE AND EFFECT: The purpose of this position is to assist in the construction of City infrastructure. Success in this position contributes to a well-maintained City infrastructure.
PERSONAL CONTACTS: Contacts are typically with co-workers and members of the general public.
PURPOSE OF CONTACTS: Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, resolve problems, and provide services.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, stooping, standing, bending, crouching, or walking. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is typically performed outdoors. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts and occasional cold or inclement weather. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY: None.
