- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Accounting or in lieu of degree, a combination of equivalent education and work experience.
Experience
- Accounting experience (5 years).
- Supervisory/management experience at the department level (3 years).
- Understanding and practical use of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Familiarity with automated accounting systems.
Preferred:
- Familiarity with community health centers, medical/dental clinics or practices, or other healthcare settings.
- Not-for-profit accounting experience.
- Financial analysis experience.
CredentialsPreferred:
- Public Accountant (CPA) certification by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).
Other
- Driver's license with the State of Washington.
- Motor vehicle insurance liability policy, a certificate of deposit, or a liability bond to the required limits.
Job Specific Functions/Performance Expectations:
1. Plans, directs and coordinates all accounting operational functions.
2. Manages the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results.
3. Coordinates and prepares internal and external financial statements.
4. Coordinates activities of external auditors.
5. Coordinates activities of external tax return preparers.
6. Provides management with vital information to the decision-making process.
7. Manages the budget process.
8. Assesses current accounting operations, offers recommendations for improvement and implements new processes.
9. Reviews and/or prepares monthly general ledger account reconciliations.
10. Evaluates accounting and internal control systems.
11. Evaluates the effectiveness of accounting software and supporting database.
12. Develops and monitors business performance metrics.
13. Responds to requests for information from other departments within the agency.
14. Performs financial analysis and special projects as assigned.
15. Oversees regulatory reporting, frequently including tax planning and compliance.
16. Performs annual regulatory reporting, including but not limited to Medicare and Medicaid Cost Report, Uniform Data Set (“UDS” report), Financial Status Report (“FSR”) and other State and Federal report as required.
17. Manages, hires, develops, and retains skilled accounting staff.
18. Performs grant invoicing, monitoring and reconciliations on a monthly basis or as specified in the grant agreements.
19. Adheres to attendance standards in order to perform the job functions for daily operations and/or continuity of patient care.
