The role you’ll contribute:

Under the direct supervision of the Director, the Cook is responsible for the preparation of upscale meals as part of our room service for patients with an understanding of various modified diets to meet the nutritional requirements working with the Clinical Dietitian. Prepare high volume special meals for the cafeteria and special events daily. Develop standardized recipes for the other cooks to follow in the preparation and cooking of each entrée. Ensure safety and sanitation regulations required are followed by infection control polices and all other state and federal agency.

  • Prepare attractive and palatable meals for therapeutic and regular diets in quantities dictated by the food production sheets.
  • Prepare food for patients, cafeteria, and special functions, using creativity and advanced culinary skills.
  • Use Advanced Culinary Skills to develop a training program to assist with the training of other cooks in the department to enhance their skills in food production and service.
  • Maintain sanitary conditions of Kitchen, worktables and other equipment used in the performance of duties; record temperatures appropriately.
  • Make estimates relative to quantities of food required weekly. Make suggestions for changes in patients and cafeteria menus entrée choices to improve customer satisfaction .
  • Assist in putting up stock and maintain rotation of stock, keep storage areas organized and sanitary, with all foods labeled and dated.
  • Check menus for the following day and pulls foods as needed.
  • Any other tasks as assigned by Director.
  • Assist with the management of the department in the absent of the Director.
  • Communicate with Director and other staff to ensure overall organizational needs are met.

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  • Establishes and maintains courteous, tactful and professional level of interpersonal skills necessary to

deal effectively with the public.

  • Demonstrates effective communication skills; is able to report and convey required information either verbally or in writing; maintains required level of confidentiality; consults with and/or advises appropriate personnel of situations requiring follow-up or attention.
  • Conforms to all Gordon Hospital organizational, and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Establishes and maintains a history of regular attendance; makes appropriate use of PDO and observes department call-in procedures for absence; establishes and maintains punctual work habits. Exhibits timely arrival and departure and dependable time habits including meal and other breaks.
  • Attends/participates in mandatory facility-wide and department training/meetings as required.
  • Required to respond to emergency situations (i.e., disasters, hurricanes, etc.) by reporting to department and staying until the crisis is over or position is covered by incoming personnel. This is a mandatory requirement. Refusal to respond may result in termination.

Qualifications

The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:


  • Basic math skills
  • The ability to read and write in English
  • Able to communicate in English
  • Use of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Power Point
  • Food service knowledge

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS PREFERRED:

      • Institutional food service knowledge

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • 1 year of food service experience

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

    • 1 year institutional food service experience
    • High School Diploma or equivalent
    • Some culinary education is desirable, but not required.

  • Serve Safe
