The Cost Accountant is responsible for overseeing and analyzing inventory and cost of goods sold valuation for the plant. This position will require an outgoing individual who can work in a fast-paced environment. Succeeding in this role will require effective teaming skills and the ability to prioritize and effectively work on multiple tasks.

Job Responsibilites

  • Maintain the standard costing system including updating and monitoring costing elements (material, labor, and burden) and performing standard cost rolls.
  • Working with purchasing and manufacturing engineering, review costing on routings and bills of material.
  • Analyze costs and make cost savings recommendations.
  • With the controller, work cross-functionally with plant management staff to manage and track identified cost savings opportunities.
  • Working with purchasing, monitor purchase price variance reports and review purchase prices from manufacturing partners and vendors.
  • Perform burden/overhead rate analysis as well as material overhead rate analyses including overhead rates for freight
  • Perform analysis to determine scrap, warranty and shrinkage and obsolescence tack on rates.
  • Analyze actual manufacturing costs compared to standard costs; follow up on standard overhead rate compared to actual indirect manufacturing costs to help explain spend and operational variances.
  • Work closely with materials management to monitor inventory valuation and inventory levels.
  • Prepare account reconciliations as appropriate.
  • Perform month end duties, including “walk the dock”
  • Create appropriate journal entries as necessary.
  • Support internal audits of costing and inventory valuation as well as inventory controls.
  • The person in this role may work with auditors, both internal and external

Requirements

  • Minimun requirement of a bachelor's degree in accounting or finace is required for this role.
  • Minimum of 3 – 5 years of accounting experience
  • 2+ years of experience in manufacturing in a cost accountant role or analyst role
  • Demonstrated understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Understanding of manufacturing cost flow and inventory management, ability to research accounting standards and perform complex analysis
  • Meticulous attention to detail with superb organizational skills
  • Experiences with internal control, public company reporting is a plus.
  • Advanced Excel skills and accounting/ERP software. Experience with SAP is a plus.
  • Ability to understand data mapping and connections in various systems to help design financial models and financial reporting tools
  • Must be a team player with excellent verbal & written communication skills to build effective relationships.
  • Must be a self-starter and fast learner who will take ownership of responsibilities and strive for continuous improvement.
  • Legally able to work in USA
