GENERAL FUNCTION
To perform all phases of clerk operation in court, keeping minutes of proceedings, swearing in witnesses, tracking exhibits, and follow up documentation of court proceedings and ongoing case management.

SUPERVISES
No supervisory responsibility.

RESPONSIBILITIES
A. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Ensure all documents are entered in cases for court hearings. While in court take minutes of proceedings, schedule hearings, supply information and minutes to defendants, swear in witnesses and assist judge in completing all necessary steps for each hearing.
2. Outside of court determine which records are required per the court hearing - create and distribute them properly. Determine what information needs to be disseminated from the hearing and do so.
3. Update case records. Create new cases and maintain accurate records. Prepare warrants and cancel same.
4. Assist general public in a pleasant and professional manner with information, records and directions. Assist co-workers as necessary.
5. Responsible to know and practice the Safety policies of the County. Perform all job tasks in a safe and prescribed manner.

B. OTHER DUTIES
1. Assist general public at the counter or by telephone with information, records, and requests. Make certification of records as requested.
2. Any other duties as may be assigned.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, QUALIFICATIONS
High school graduate; or equivalent, with a legal or management certificate with one (1) year legal experience or three (3) years legal experience. Further requirements include typing skills of 50 wpm; working knowledge of computers (Word software) and the ability to learn and utilize in-house computer programs and any upgrades. Accuracy and attention to detail, as well as excellent organizational skills are a must. Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment. Ability to communicate effectively with fellow employees and the general public. Basic everyday living skills are needed, as is the ability to read, write, add, and subtract is necessary for maintaining court documents and related matters.

Basic office equipment used: computer, scanner, telephone, copier / printer / FAX machine, typewriter, and calculator.
