The Umatilla County Circuit Courtin Pendleton, Oregon is hiring a Court Clerk (Judicial Services Specialist 3).
Highlights of a Court Clerk…
Court clerks assist with criminal case processing and courtroom support and operations. Clerks are a customer service position, and we are looking for candidates that enjoy working with the public and have solid computer skills. You will work directly with members of the public such as attorneys, judges, interpreters, law enforcement, and other court users. If you are looking to change careers, the clerk position is a great way to transition into working for the courts.
Much of your day is spent performing court case workflow tasks, data entry in assigned cases and providing customer service. Workflow includes examining paperwork for accuracy, receiving pleadings and documents from parties to cases and attorneys, assisting and coordinating court cases and defendants, and entering case data in OJD's electronic case management system, and sharing case-related information with judges and coworkers.
You may also be assigned to courtroom duties including using recording equipment to log all events in real-time, swearing-in of witnesses, marking and maintaining exhibits and exhibit logs and entering data onto each case register while the court is in session. Attending to juries as bailiff or assisting with jury support duties in and out of the courtroom as needed will be part of your duties.
You will assist the public at a public service counter and on the phone by answering questions, supplying forms, and receiving payments via cash, credit/debit cards, and checks/money orders for balances owed to the court, then crediting those accounts.
Most importantly, you will be working for Oregon’s courts, which provides justice services to your community and helping to ensure people’s cases are heard in a timely and impartial manner.
Assigned tasks may be changed to accommodate workload and organizational needs. Previous experience in a court or legal environment is not required. We welcome all candidates who are inspired by our work and mission.
