Job Title: CPRC Research Assistant

Reports to: Scientific Research Institute Director

Location: Caribbean Primate Research Center, Toa Baja , Puerto Rico

Purpose:

The Research Assistant will facilitate and coordinate the activities of the execution of research and related activities at the Sabana Seca Field Station (SSFS) of the Caribbean Primate Research Center(CPRC) supporting the Center’s goals. The Research Assistant will be responsible for the coordination and support of the research activities, related compliance procedures, and follow-up of visitors and students. Duties will be performed in the SSFS of the CPRC- Medical Sciences Campus of the University of Puerto Rico.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

Among the essential activities, the Research Assistant will:

  • Serve as liaison among researchers at the SSFS and the CPRC Directorship and follow-up at the different stages of the projects.
  • Collaborates on the training, and supervision of the personnel assigned to a research project.
  • Coordinated project procedures with the veterinary staff.
  • Is in charge of volunteer or practicing students. This includes assuring compliance with health requirements and training prior to starting.
  • Follow-up with the Occupational Health Clinic on the health entering certificates of volunteers, students and researchers.
  • Provide support to the animal research procedures when deemed necessary.
  • Coordinates the inventory and disposal of chemicals along with staff from the laboratory and necropsy
  • In charge of providing training related to the management of biomedical waste and chemicals
  • Participates in periodic meetings related to the assigned duties' progress.
  • Participates in continuing education activities.
  • Collaborates on documents translation related
  • Coordinates outreach activities to help in spreading the Center's information, as approved by the CPRC Directorship.
  • Maintain the information on the CPRC website updated.
  • Direct and prioritize activities following established standard operating procedures, good clinical practices, and study protocols.
  • Ensure the filing and maintenance of all regulatory documents
  • Perform other related job duties as assigned.

Education, Training, and Experiences:

  • BSc /Animal Science or Masters or doctorate degree on related sciences.
  • Ability to interact and collaborate with multiple groups and work with a high degree of independence and successfully within a deadline-driven, multi- tasking operating environment.
  • Fully bilingual with excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills with the proven ability to solve problems and operate effectively.
  • Must be a highly organized, enthusiastic, and personable person who can interact with various internal and external constituents.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Excel, Word, Teams, PowerPoint)
