POSITION SUMMARY: The Air Traffic Controller serves as the liaison between Dayhawk subspecialty reads, Teleradiology sites, medical staff and various facilities, and radiologists.Their primary function is to support an efficient reading process by distributing work appropriately adhering to Operation Committee directives and provide effective communications ensuring efficacious patient care. In addition, the ATC play a consistent key role in problem solving as issues arise across the Enterprise.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Good teamwork and team engagement is essential for this role.Being able to effectively communicate with team members through Microsoft Teams in real time throughout the day is a must.
  • Working within the Pacs system to aid in digital workflow that positively impacts patient care.This includes merging/ linking, fixing exceptions, and tracking down outside imaging, etc. It also includes monitoring turnaround times system wide and assisting as needed to meet agreed upon turnaround time expectations.
  • Effective communication with Radiologists to maintain confidence in the team’s ability to keep up with the demands of the system.This includes having a full understanding of the workflow determined by the Operations Committee and adhering to the details required to appropriately distribute imaging cases.
  • Being able to work independently to take on the sole responsibility of ones work is a must.Fully owning the workflow to maintain optimum patient care is a must.
  • Responsible for learning the workflow for Atrium and Non-Atrium coordination and distribution of subspecialty work including Teleradiology workflow.
  • When staffing shortages arise within the ATC team, being willing and able to step in to help cover the shortage
  • Continue to develop job responsibilities as the needs of the system changes.
  • Taking initiative to create learning opportunities to continue to grow in understanding of the job duties as needed once initial training is completed.
Minimum Qualifications: Education/Licensing/Certification:
  • Junior college/associate degree in Radiologic Technology
  • ARRT Certification helpful but not required
  • Equivalent work experience (in lieu of Associate degree) may be considered
Experience (years and type):
  • Less than 1 year
  • 1-year radiology experience preferred; technical radiology experience is not required
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology specifically Technical Radiology Terms: All Modalities
  • Understanding of basic PACS processes but willing to develop new capabilities
  • Recognition and understanding of exam completion to provide radiologist with information needed for all modalities
  • Working knowledge of MS Excel.Strong data entry and proofreading skills. Attention to detail a must
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task, work independently and make decisions using good critical thinking skills
  • Organization and close attention to detail
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately to maintain TAT standards
  • Must exercise flexibility with work schedule and be extremely dependable
Travel Required (% of time):
  • 0-25%
Physical Requirements & Work Environment:
  • Primarily sitting
  • Lifting up to 25lbs.
  • This position requires sitting for most of the shift.The environment is fast paced with phone calls, IMs, and emails from radiologist, and staff within the system needing help.Must be well organized and pay attention to detail when maintaining the workflow.Merging priors.Must be able to maneuver around roadblocks to complete the work accurately within the set guidelines.Day to day, working alongside ATC II and ATC Evening team members will be the norm.When filling in for an ATC team member, it may require one to work alone which can be challenging when faced with quick decisions.Time flexibility is a must.It may be necessary to work different shifts if a need arises such as illness or vacation.Working overnight hours as an ATC will be required on occasion to cover staffing shortages as well as daytime and evening. When the team isn't experiencing a staffing shortage, this position will be a weekday position with hours 9a to 6p.
  • This position is a remote position, however, when connectivity is an issue, team members are expected to go on-site to be able to perform job duties.
