American Conservation Experience, a nonprofit Conservation Corps, in partnership with the National Park Service (NPS) and through the Cultural Resources Diversity Internship Program, is seeking a Collections & Archives Member to research, review, inventory, catalog, and digitize records related to African American stories with Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park support.

The Cultural Resources Diversity Internship Program (CRDIP) is a professional development internship that introduces students and recent graduates, from backgrounds historically underrepresented in the National Parks, to career opportunities within Cultural Resource Management in the NPS. CRDIP participants will have the opportunity to attend several professional development webinars as well as write blogs or create videos about their projects throughout their term. This position is classified as a DHA (Direct Hire Authority) Internship. DHA positions target exceptional, current upper-level undergraduate or graduate students that are interested in pursuing careers with the NPS. DHA positions will be rigorous internships that develop the participant's technical and creative thinking abilities, leadership skills, and problem-solving capabilities.
DHA applicants will be involved in cultural resource management projects that generate data and/or research that must be analyzed and presented to various stakeholders at the end of the internship. After successful completion of the internship, and graduation from their degree program, the intern will receive DHA non-competitive hiring eligibility.

The park is located near downtown Atlanta, in Sweet Auburn-a historic African American neighborhood. There is a vibrant restaurant and nightlife scene, easy access to the Atlanta Beltline, proximity to the King Center and various museums, and easy access to the MARTA train station nearby and a bus station even closer. Position Overview: The Collections & Archives Member will research, review, inventory, catalog and digitize records in a collaboration with The HistoryMakers, a non-profit institution dedicated to preserving the personal stories of African Americans. They will contribute to the development and implementation of a Scope of Collections statement and system to organize, classify, record and access materials to create a paper and digital archive. This position will provide hands-on experience with raw archival collections and engaging with archival issues and practices with a wide range of professionals.
This individual placement is meant to facilitate professional development and promotes exposure to land management agencies and networking with professionals. This could include gaining experience in different conservation fields and shadowing different work groups.
Schedule: Full-time position Monday to Friday; 8:00 am-4:30pm (flexible).
Position Benefits
Living Allowance: The ACE Member is expected to contribute ~40 hours/week and will receive a living allowance of $680/week to offset the costs of food and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly.
Public Land Corps Hiring Authority: Members serving under this agreement may be eligible for a federal hiring authority upon completion of their term of service. PLC projects also include specific eligibility requirements such as age and citizenship. Please contact ACE staff with questions about eligibility, or view general information online here.
Housing: Housing is the responsibility of the member and not provided by ACE or NPS. A reimbursement not to exceed $150/week will be provided to help offset the cost of housing.
Provided Training/Orientation: ACE members will receive position specific training and an orientation outlining ACE policies and procedures, clear guidance on prohibited activities, and networks for support. Specific training may include introductory courses in NPS specific museum management software, library systems, and archival practices.
Qualifications
Required:
- Education, experience, and/or demonstrated interest in archival studies, museum studies, records management, or a related discipline
- Knowledge of contemporary archival and records management principles and practices, including electronic records and paper records management
- Strong analytical and organizational skills
- Experience using technological tools and electronic databases
- Members must be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident, as required by U.S. government contracts
- Willing and able to represent ACE and the partner organization in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner
- Ability to be both self-directed/work alone, and be a positive, contributing member of a group
- A current and valid form of ID (will be required to provide copies of ID's upon hiring)
- Willing to undergo and must pass the required two-part criminal history check
- Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
- ACE Members will need to complete bi-weekly timesheets, beginning of term feedback forms, end of term evaluations and for longer terms, a mid-term evaluation
