Under the authority of Management, the Crisis Worker assures that all operating procedures and regulations are followed. The Crisis Worker provides direct services to consumers, significant others and collateral resources and assists consumers in reaching goals set in treatment. The goal is to provide immediate response to mental health, substance abuse, and DD crisis via telephone and face-to-face interventions. Often times, the Crisis Workers are required to collaborate with family members, psychiatrists, law enforcement, Coroner’s office staff, hospitals and others.

Responsibilities/Duties:
Direct Care:
- Consumer Care including spending at least 75% of scheduled time in direct, face to face or telephone interactions with consumers.
- Conduct psycho-educational, skills training, and supportive crisis counseling in residence or community.
- Observe all scheduled and as needed (PRN) medication observations and assist as directed by Residential Nurse (i.e. blood pressure, pulse, temperature, etc.).
- Residential crisis specific duties including but not limited to:
- Early walking.
- Daily planning.
- Meal preparation and clean-up.
- Maintaining necessary scheduled appointments that have been approved by supervisory team member.
- Telephone Crisis Specific Duties including screening incoming calls, providing appropriate telephone counseling, consultation, assessment and referral to needed services including Mobile and/or Residential Crisis Intervention services.
- Complete all documentation as required by RHD, Funder, licensing/accreditation entities.
- Community Involvement and teamwork including but not limited to providing referral and other case management services for consumers and families at times of?contact,?either on the phone, in the community, or with the resident prior to discharge.
- Other duties as assigned.
- 4 years of experience in public or private human services with one year of mental health direct care experience.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred with major course work in sociology, social work, psychology, gerontology, anthropology, political science, history, criminal justice, theology, nursing, counseling, education or a related field.
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalency and 12 semester credit hours in sociology, social welfare, psychology; gerontology; or other social sciences.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred?with major course work in sociology, social work, psychology, gerontology, anthropology, political science, history, criminal justice, theology, nursing, counseling, education or a related field.
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalency and 12 semester credit hours in sociology, social welfare, psychology; gerontology; or other social sciences.
- 4 years of experience in public or private human services with one year of mental health direct care experience.
RHD’s Alternative Dispatch Team (ADT) is a New Orleans, Louisiana, program with a mission to create a fourth branch of the emergency response system that can more effectively respond to behavioral health crises called into 911 and provide a caring, effective, and innovative crisis response.
The ADT multidisciplinary mobile crisis outreach team integrates directly with the 911 system and is deployed as an alternative to or as a co-responder with Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Fire Department, and the New Orleans Police Department to provide a rapid, mobile response that meets individuals experiencing a behavioral health crisis face-to-face in the community. The overall goal of this intervention is to provide relief to New Orleans EMS, Fire, and police by helping those in crisis experience quick relief and a resolution to the crisis.
ADT will be deployed by licensed mental health professionals, certified peer specialist, and crisis workers fielding calls for behavioral health crises in close coordination with 911 dispatch call-takers. Dispatch will triage 911 calls, diverting those suspected of being behavioral health calls to ADT clinicians. ADT staff will resolve the call by phone, dispatch ADT to the scene, or request that another emergency branch responds to the crisis, as appropriate.
