Key Relationships:
  • KenCrest Connecticut Residential Director, Program Coordinator, direct support staff, consumers and families

Essential Functions:
  • Hire Direct SupportProfessionals - interview prospective candidates and determine their appropriateness for the house.
  • Train all staff in the needs and responsibilities of the house and individual program plans. Model and teach the principles of Positive Approaches, Personal Outcomes of individuals, and empowerment techniques.
  • Establish staff schedule – Assign staff hours, days, shifts to be worked, appraise time off requests, review overtime assignments and staff transfers to other programs. Assure that house is always properly staffed in accordance with ratio/needs of individuals. Also responsible for reviewing and approving all DSP time.
  • Fill in on shifts in the home on an emergency basis.
  • Assign job responsibilities to staff on each shift in accordance with the needs of the house.
  • Complete and conductperformance evaluations for new staff after completion of probationary period, and for all staff yearly.
  • Conduct informal counseling sessions with staff to resolve issues, and discipline employees through the formal disciplinary procedure by having authority to give verbal and written warnings. Recommend and participate in disciplinary action above a written warning, which includes discharge.
  • Place employees on administrative leave while investigations occur; examples include allegations of abuse, sexual harassment, etc.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation and its related duties.
  • Act in a professional manner while engaging in work related activities. Establish and maintain positive, professional relationships with individuals, friends, family and community contacts and agency personnel.
  • Conduct monthly staff meetings (keeping a formal written record) to discuss issues that may include employee grievances, scheduling issues, appointments, program planning, etc.
  • Assure that house/staff schedule is in line with the weekly budgeted hours of the home.
  • Maintain house petty cash and credit card accounts, ensuring that all monies are accounted for.
  • Monitor spending to ensure that expenditures are within the current house budget, and review monthly budget printout for accuracy and records.
  • Plan and monitor consistently the home’s fiscal operations by adhering to consumer’s and home’s budget at all times.
  • Maintain individuals’ monies and spending in accordance with their Financial Plans.
  • Assure upkeep of physical property, both interior and exterior. File Maintenance Work Requests and follow through for completion. Assure house is always in compliance with physical site areas of the State Regulations.
  • Ensure the completion of a fire drill and related house inspection and tracking form, handed in by the 15th of each month. The drills should follow the State Regulation for variation in time, day of week, location of fire, etc.
  • Ensure the safety of the staff and consumers through training, monitoring, and implementation of safety procedures, including Fire Safety, Vehicle Safety and the Vehicle Orientation and Driver Assessment.
  • Ensure scheduling and completion of timely medical appointments in accordance with State Regulations and medical needs of the individuals.
  • Ensure proper medication storage and administration of all individuals’ medications, monitoring closely for proper documentation of medication administration and reporting of errors.
  • Complete monthly and quarterly reports (as necessary) for each individual by the 15th of each month.
  • Ensure adherence to, and promotion of the KenCrest Mission Statement and philosophy.
  • Utilize the principles of Positive Approaches, Gentle Teaching, Personal Outcomes, and Self-Determination to support a living environment that is empowering and promotes the development of the individual’s maximum potential.
  • Purchase items and maintain furnishings within the houses’ budget.
  • Ensure the rights and wellbeing of all individuals served in the home including proper clothing, nutritious meals, and personal belongings.
  • Maintain the vehicle assigned to the home, arranging for regular maintenance and inspections and reporting accidents within 24 hours.
  • Assist with referral and placement process of new individuals for each home.
  • Provide assistance and guidance in completing Annual Assessment and Program Plan, assuring the wants, needs, and welfare of the individual is always at the forefront of all planning and active community integration.
  • Train staff in program goals and monitor their implementation.
  • Work directly with individuals to assure goal completion and monitor progress.
  • Attend meetings as required including Monthly Residential Management meetings, Planning Meetings (i.e. IPP or ISP), nursing/HIRS reviews and behavioral reviews if applicable.
  • Act as liaison with county, day programs and families.
  • Maintain medical records, and ensure and monitor proper programmatic data collection for all individuals.
  • Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
