POSITION TITLE AND DEPARTMENT:

Curriculum Specialist (CS) for the Bering Sea Campus (BSC) within the Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED)

POSITION LOCATION:

This position is based in St. Paul, Alaska.

POSITION CLASSIFICATION, HOURS & WORK SCHEDULE:

Full-time; 40 hours per week; Hours may vary.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Curriculum Specialist (CM)Specialist will assist the Academic Program Manager, the Bering Sea Campus (BSC), and Pribilof School District (PSD) teachers in the creation of site specific, culturally informed and relevant, K-12 and post secondary curriculum that meets industry standards and is informed by research, current methodology, and practice. Currciulum projects have a wide range of subject matters and include cultural, STEAM, and traditional K-12 focus. Many of the curriculum projects include blending Unangan Tunnu (Aleut) language components, traditional ways of learning and knowing, and ancient practice and knowledge.

The Curriculum Specialist will assist the Academic Manager in all phases of curriculum development. This includes design, planning, creation, research, implementation, and digitization into a learning management system. The CS must have a familiarity with Canvas or other electronic learning formats and an ability to navitage the digital requirements for online/online accessible curriculum.

The Curriculum Specialist is driven by excellence to deliver high quality academic support, and guidance, manage a seamless communication process, and focus on informational needs in a scalable manner. The Curriculum Specialist will be responsible for assisting the BSC team in the ongoing improvement of program related operating processes, procedures, and protocols to operationalize and maintain academic standards, efficiencies and services to students.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND FUNCTIONS:

The following are essential job responsibilities and functions in each performance area of the Curriculum Specialist:

  • Responsible for the development, design, and creation of K-12 and post secondary curriculum
  • Has an appreciation for, and understanding of, Alaska Native and cultural perspectives, ways of knowing, and ancient knowledge
  • Effectively and regularly communicates with BSC, ACSPI and the Curriculum Design Team about educational programs, opportunities, logistics and scheduling.
  • Maintains positive attitude and collaborative working relationships with co-workers.
  • Collaborates and coordinates with BSC, ACSPI and Curriculum Design Team on any and all program digitization assigned.
  • Participates in education development strategy and quality assessment performance, including weekly meetings.
  • The Currciulum Specialist will be a central collaborator and facilitator of curriculum design and creation and infrastructural design review and quality assurance. The Specialist will work with the ACSPI Academic Manager to oversee implementation and rollout.
  • Provide education perspective and support to parents and students of the Pribilof School District when necessary.
  • Deliver necessary quarterly data for BSC programming and PSD quarterly report cards for the district.
  • Train appropriate personnel on the use of the currciulum when necessary.
  • Implement upgrades or design changes to the currciulum when necessary, which inherently includes the additional task of staying up to date on the latest education currciulum trends and upgrades.
  • Ensures that all information is delivered on-time and within scopes; completes individual tasks accurately and timely; ensures all tasks are up to date with current notes, statuses, and additional action items.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Must have relevant work experience and proficiency of learning management systems, Canvas preferred.

2. Current enrollment or completion of a postsecondary program in education is preferred.

3. Must have experience and be able to provide examples of previous curriculum design and methodology.

4. Must be a high school graduate.

5. Ablity to work both independently and collaboratively.

6. Effective written and verbal communication.

7. Must be knowledgable in computer functions and micosoft applications, such as excel, word, etc.

8. Quality organizational skills with an ability to work on multiple projects at once.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

This is an hourly position with an hourly compensation of $32.00-$36.00 per hour dependent on experience level.
