Custodian/Event Set Up
Job description
Performs essential custodial tasks involving housekeeping and grounds keeping. Also performs event set-ups, advanced floor care, light building maintenance and does related work as required. Must be able to pass a detailed background check to perform work at certain City facilities, as certain buildings/offices work with sensitive and confidential information.
The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.
Complete housekeeping tasks including, but not limited to sweeping, scrubbing and mopping floors; stripping and waxing of floors, vacuuming and shampooing of rugs, dusting, emptying waste receptacles, grounds keeping, cleaning and sanitizing of restrooms, replenishing supplies. Ensure housekeeping is completed up to standard inspection guidelines as identified by Facilities Manager and Director.- Report repairs, verify keyed security access, and maintain inventory of housekeeping equipment and materials.
- Handle event set-ups and a variety of building maintenance tasks including but not limited to moving furniture/equipment, replacing lights and air filters, assembling shelving, and/or minor repairs.
- Oversee contracted and in-house extermination services, when requested.
- Perform duties and responsibilities with a positive, flexible approach considering the possibility of emergency situations, special projects, and/or after-hours activities.
- Perform other responsibilities, duties, and assignments as directed
Must be able to provide services for the benefit of the general public during emergency situations that threaten the safety of League City’s citizens, and that, City employees must be able to work immediately before, during, or immediately after an emergency .
- High school diploma (or GED equivalent)
- At least one (1) year custodial/ janitorial experience, preferably in commercial setting
- Must be able to work days, nights, and weekends
- Must pass a Federal/National criminal background check and satisfy Criminal Justice Information Security (CJIS) requirements to enter certain secure City facilities such as the Public Safety Building. This means that the candidate must not have been convicted or put on court-ordered community supervision or probation for a Class B misdemeanor within the last 10 years, or at any time for any offense above the grade of Class B misdemeanor.
- Valid Texas State driver's license required.
Knowledge of:
The methods, materials and equipment used in janitorial and minor building maintenance
- Must have ladder skills
- Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships
- Performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature
- Must be physically able to life 50lbs
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, agencies, contractors, and the public
- Work with limited direct supervision to meet schedules and deadlines of the work
- Understand and carry out oral and written directions
- Communicate effective, both orally and in writing

- The position involves heavy physical demands, such as exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
