Job Summary
Responsible for the administration of Veterans Administration educational benefit programs at Minnesota State University, Mankato. Assist students and the public with questions and concerns regarding eligibility and certification of benefits. The incumbent serves as a Veteran’s School Certifying Official, certifying veterans and eligible persons adhering to rules, regulations and guidelines as determined by the University, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and the State Approving Agency.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Customer services skills sufficient to actively listen to and understand needs and provide accurate information and appropriate alternatives in a timely, thorough, courteous, respectful, and Professional manner in person, over the phone and in writing.
Communication: Written and verbal communication skills sufficient to write, prepare, and edit materials and clearly explain, discuss, communicate and present complex ideas, regulations, policies and procedures to students, parents, staff and senior managers.
Computer: Ability to use MS Word and Excel, and other software applications to prepare, create, format, edit, print, save and/or attach a variety of documents.
Development of administrative and programmatic procedures: Ability to analyze and make recommendations to management for new or revised administrative and program practices and procedures for smooth and efficient office operation.
Knowledge of English sufficient to:
Present clear and concise explanations of governing rules and regulations
Explain the reasons for transactions and procedures, rules and regulations so others understand the information they are being given.
Knowledge of math sufficient to:
Add, subtract, multiply and divide; calculate percentages; use simple formulas and determine eligibility and level of benefits
- Skill in math sufficient to: Apply simple formulas to financial data, compute account balances and amounts owed
Organizational skills: Organizational skills sufficient to manage multiple projects and stay focused through frequent interrruptions while still delivering results and meeting deadlines.
Initiative: Demonstrated ability to work independently and take the initiative to do a job without regular help and advice from others.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.
Knowledge of and experience in certifying veteran’s educational benefits.
Knowledge of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs printed regulations.
Knowledge of veteran’s legislation and veterans’ resources related to higher education

Work safely at all times, which includes but is not limited to, participating in and completing all required safety trainings, as well as performing all job tasks in accordance with Minnesota State University, Mankato policies and procedures utilizing appropriate tools, equipment and personal protective equipment
