The Data Engineer is a member of the Nihon Kohden engineering team that build and operationally supports the Data Platform product which enables data analytics algorithms and data-driven user applications. Nihon Kohden utilizes a DevOps practice, and this position entails both software development and operational IT support of the Data Platform product.

The Data Engineer will build and maintain the data infrastructure tools used to generate, ingest, and access large amounts of clinical data. This position focuses on operational performance and optimization; and requires writing scalable and fault tolerant code.

Target salary is $79,000 or above, depending on years of experience and expertise.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAIN DUTIES

• Refine and maintain our data infrastructure technologies to support real-time analysis of clinical data.
• Consistently evolve data model & data schema based on business and engineering requirements.
• Own the data streaming and ETL platform.
• Follow best software engineering practices and code quality, including adhering to sprint plans, good coding conventions and tooling, clean interfaces, test coverage, performance benchmarking, and performance optimizations and software security.
• Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and business ethics codes.
• Duties may be modified or assigned at any time based on business need.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education / Certification / Experience required:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline; if applicable: relevant education and experience accepted in lieu of degree
• 3+ years of experience working with healthcare interoperable standards (i.e. HL7, FHIR)
• 3+ years of experience with stream data processing/messaging systems such as: Kafka, KSQL, and Spark.
• 3+ years of experience in writing clean, maintainable, and well-tested code
• 3+ years of experience in databases (both SQL and NoSQL) and data engineering system modules with ability to work in one or more of the following: Python, and/or MATLAB.
• Cloud Certification preferred
• Public Cloud services experience preferred (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google)

Competencies Required:

• Familiarity with ETL design (both implementation and maintenance).
• Able to work effectively both independently and in a collaborative team environment

WORKING CONDITIONS

SCHEDULE: The regular hours for this full-time position are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday, unless otherwise stated by the department manager. Holiday, weekend, and evening work hours may be required. Regular hours may vary due to the needs of the organization or department and are subject to change at any time at the Company's discretion.

PHYSICAL: Generally, may require some reaching, bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying up to 20 pounds, finger dexterity, repetitive motions, standing, walking, sitting, hearing, visual acuity, color vision, and 2-way written/verbal communication in English. More specific details may be provided as needed or requested.
