Job Summary:
ISSA’s Data Services Manager will own the ISSA data services infrastructure, manage the Data Services Team and be responsible for the design, implementation, and ongoing support of our new and existing data services. We are in the online education business for the fitness industry – so tasks can range from designing new data structures to optimizing database queries to coaching existing team members. The data services infrastructure demands someone who loves to work hands-on with data and its supporting systems to ensure data quality, availability, and security. Your contributions in this role will help ISSA optimize our applications and processes, support our continued dynamic revenue growth, and most importantly – help us deliver on our vision to connect 100 million people to the power of healthy living by 2030.
Responsibilities and duties:
- Manage the Data Services Team (40%): Be the leader of the data services team. Help manage data services projects and work with the team to assign projects based on skill and ensure delivery metrics are met; Participate in ongoing code reviews and ensure consistent quality and consistency to standards; Mentor and guide the professional and technical development of your team members; Help develop their careers, and assign them to projects tailored to their skill levels, personalities, work styles, and professional goals.
- Own the Data Services Infrastructure (50%): Be the functional owner of the data services and reporting environments. Maintain current data infrastructure while developing and implementing new data services. Strong focus on data services design, installation, configuration, migration, performance monitoring, security, troubleshooting, backup, and recovery. Own data migration projects and cloud data infrastructure. Recommend new technologies and system improvements.
- Partner with Stakeholders (10%): Interfacing with internal business teams regarding business problems, issues, and opportunities in the context of business requirements throughout the delivery lifecycle. Help business analysts and team members translate business needs into requirements and user stories. Train business users on report creation and proper reporting usage to encourage self-service.
What is ISSA looking for:
- 3+ years of inspiring and leading an agile data engineering team
- 5+ years of database architecture & engineering experience with the Microsoft data stack in Azure (Azure SQL, CosmosDB)
- Experience with modern Open Source data stacks (Postgress, MySQL, MongoDB)
- Experience with high-performance data architectures such as including Data Warehousing, Star & Snowflake Schemas, Dimensional Modeling & Microservices
- Experience designing and developing data storage, data persistence and caching concepts using both SQL and NoSQL technologies (ElasticSearch)
- Experience with Microsoft Power BI for Reporting & Data Visualization
- Expert knowledge of TSQL coding, troubleshooting, optimization & debugging
- Strong knowledge of Data Management / ETL Tools (ADF, Databricks, PowerApps)
- Cloud Experience with Microsoft Azure or AWS
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Impeccable attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills - written, visual, verbal - all of it!
- Proven ability to manage a team in a deadline-driven environment
- Exceptional self-direction and project management skills
