Job Description
The Data Visualization Manager will leverage his/her experience and technical and artistic skills to advance North America data analytics teams success in presenting and telling a story with data, in a manner that is impactful and actionable by senior business leaders. Primary areas of focus include educating, training, and supporting North American data analytics teams in the design, development, and implementation of data analytics solutions
The key activities associated with the Data Visualization Manager can include:
- Create and lead structured trainings and workshops for members of the North America Analytics Community to understand business strategy and objectives, gather information, and ensure business requirements are being fulfilled throughout the entire data analytics lifecycle, and develop both technical and artistic acumen.
Technical Acumen
- Design, code, test, and aggregate results from SQL queries
- Perform semantic layer design according to established standards
- Create technical documentation to capture relationships (schema) between different databases
- Communicate complex technical constructs to business users
- Evaluate and improve existing BI systems and models
- Collaborate with various stakeholders to integrate data from multiple source systems
- Streamline the delivery of information across the enterprise
- Define, develop, and implement data models to deliver self-service analytical capabilities to the business users
- Partner with IT to provide business support on the deployment architecture
- Design and develop tabular cubes/models for optimal performance
- Provide technical support in the migration of existing reporting to Power BI
Artistic Acumen
- Design solutions to present large amounts of information in ways that are universally understandable or easy to interpret
- Establish and monitor business intelligence design principles
- Ability to develop mock-ups to effectively visualize and demonstrate proposed user experience
- Harness creativity to render information useful in data storytelling
- Work with structured, semi-structured and unstructured data sets, determining key takeaways or action items and communicating them pictorially
- Act as a mentor to North America Analytics Community members by proactively sharing best practices, providing coaching, and overall teaching in a manner that develops data visualization skills in others
- Be a consultant-style resource in data visualization, directing and guiding at times, and at times doing the work
- Other duties as assigned to support the Operations Excellences Center of Excellence overall objective of advancing data analytics in North America
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelors degree in data analytics, computer science, mathematics, statistics, management information systems, or related field
- 2+ years analytics experience, required
- 2+ years experience in data architecture and warehousing, preferred
- 2+ years experience in a data visualization role, preferred
- Experience in all stages of BI project work (requirements and logical design, physical design, implementation, testing, and deployment), required
- Experience writing complex relational and multidimensional database queries, required
- Knowledge of and experience with Azure platform (Data Factory, Data Lake Store, SQL Data Warehouse, ML, Stream Analytics, etc.), preferred
- Experience with machine learning (Python, R, Azure ML, etc.), preferred
- Working knowledge of logistics and/or transportation operations, preferred
