The Database Administrator will provide enterprise-wide administration and production support for corporate databases. Including but not limited to; installing, testing, configuring, monitoring, performance tuning, security, and developing evaluation plans, education programs, corporate policies, and procedures.

Essential Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

Level I:

  • Assists with the development and implementation of database performance metrics and reporting
  • Monitors and manages the growth of data files, database objects, and space usage
  • Assists with the monitoring of databases using various performance monitoring tools
  • Plans, coordinates, implements database objects and/or database object modifications to support application maintenance or enhancement release initiatives
  • Application development project lifecycle activities my include but are not limited to

    • creates/modifies indexes, tables or other database objects
    • migration of database physical structures from development through production
  • Protects the integrity of the database through effective behaviors relating to security, overall policies/procedures, and documentation.
  • Assists with the planning, testing, and implementation of new database software releases, patches, upgrades, maintenance or enhancement initiatives.
  • Assists with the configuration of Database backup
  • Participates in disaster recovery
  • Ensures backup completions are successful

Level II (in addition to Level I essential responsibilities/accountabilities):

  • Develops and implements database performance metrics and reporting
  • Monitors databases using various performance monitoring tools
  • Assists with configuring and tuning database parameters
  • Communicates existing and/or potential performance issues to appropriate support groups
  • Monitors and manages the growth of data files, database objects, and space usage
  • Recommends and performs database reorganizations
  • Develops, tests, and implements backup procedures for each database that ensure database recoverability within negotiated customer specifications.
  • When necessary, identifies and communicates the extent of database damage
  • Defines and implements the process to maintain database security.
  • Maintains, communicates and adheres to defined standards, policies and procedures.
  • Communicates existing and/or potential security violations to management
  • Application development project lifecycle activities my include but are not limited to

    • provides DBA activities and timeframes to the project management process
    • provides technical consultation for application problem resolution
    • Provides problem recognition and resolution support to appropriate support groups and internal/external customers.

Level III (in addition to Level II essential responsibilities/accountabilities):

  • Evaluates, recommends, and implements performance improvements across corporate database systems
  • Identifies poorly performing SQL patterns and recommend changes to improve performance
  • Configures and tunes database planning activities
  • Application development project lifecycle activities my include but are not limited to

    • Provides technical consultation for applications development on data manipulation and data migration
    • Applies application patches when required
    • Guides application team, promoting corporate policies and sound code promotion practices
  • Defines, creates and maintains database disaster recovery plan.
  • Supports all activities to facilitate implementation of the defined disaster recovery plan.
  • Coordinates database recovery efforts with appropriate support groups and affected business units
  • Creates and evaluates standards for new database software releases, patches, upgrades, maintenance, or enhancement initiatives
  • Develops defined standards, policies and procedures
  • Participates in logical database designing activities with appropriate groups.
  • Develops and creates the physical database design
  • Provides consulting support to appropriate support groups and internal/external customers.
  • Maintains a high level of technical knowledge through education and training.
  • Independently leads platform teams and works with teams to meet business, technical and people goals.
  • Evaluates current technology and recommends tools for implementation within a project or department.
  • Leverages a strong ability to integrate database knowledge with application support

Level IV (in addition to Level III essential responsibilities/accountabilities):

  • Provides technical consultation for Applications Development on data manipulation and data migration issues
  • Reviews new database releases and determines impact to current systems.
  • Where applicable, converts the physical database design into the physical database structures appropriate for the operating system platform and DBMS
  • Participates in the selection of the database management system & other related software
  • Proactively generates relevant ideas for new and improved use of technology based on knowledge of the Corporate business, products and systems, and customers’ business needs.
  • Recognizes business systems relationships and avoids redundant systems.

Recognizes, designs, administers, or arranges continuing education programs for users

Minimum Qualifications:

NOTE:

Level I:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or relevant field (or four additional years related work experience in lieu of bachelors).
  • Basic knowledge of specified database tools, methodologies, and configuration.
  • Basic knowledge of hierarchical and relational database management systems administration
  • Basic knowledge of structured systems analysis and design with special emphasis in systems administration, project management, user relations, data integrity and data gathering techniques.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Requires basic knowledge of relevant operating system
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Works well with others and participates in meetings/events
  • Must demonstrate a desire for continued growth and skill development

Level II – requires similar qualifications as level I, plus:

  • Three years related work experience
  • Two years’ experience administering specified database platform
  • In-depth knowledge of specified database tools, methodologies, and configuration.
  • In-depth knowledge of hierarchical and relational database management systems administration
  • In-depth knowledge of structured systems analysis and design with special emphasis in systems administration, project management, user relations, data integrity and data gathering techniques
  • Requires thorough knowledge of relevant operating system

Level III – requires similar qualifications as level II, plus:

  • Five years related work experience
  • Four years’ experience administering specified database platform
  • Level I certification in specified database platform preferred

Level IV – requires similar qualifications as level III, plus:

  • Eight years related work experience
  • Seven years’ experience administering specified database platform
  • Demonstrated experience generating innovative approaches and solutions to complex problems
  • Experience improving the quality of processes used by the DBA team
  • Level II certification in specified database platform preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to travel across regions
