Database Manager/Research Coordinator Job Description

The Database Manager (DM)/Research Coordinator (RC) is a research professional working in the division of Pediatric Pulmonology, Sleep, Allergy, and Immunology at Boston Childrens Health Physicians and New York Medical College. The DM/RC reports to both the Division Chief and Division Clinical Research and Grants Manager. The successful candidate will be broadly responsible for the facilitation and coordination of daily clinical trial activities, and play a critical role in the recruitment, enrollment, conduct, record-keeping, and compliance of multiple ongoing research studies. The DM/RC is required to work collaboratively with the entire division, study sponsors, study monitors, study participants, and others to bring high productivity and diligence to all research efforts. The DM/RC will also be tasked with study administration responsibilities, such as regulatory binder maintenance, scheduling, and other duties as assigned. Salary $55-$70k negotiable based on experience.

Essential Functions:

  • Conduct study visits as outlined in research protocols, ensuring that our site is in compliance with all requirements in regard to appropriate methods, practices, and procedures.
  • Provide accurate and timely data collection, documentation, entry, and reporting in both sponsor and site databases.
  • Develops accurate source materials.
  • Ensures compliance to protocols and research regulations from site staff on research studies.
  • Assists Division Clinical Research and Grants Manager:
  • Regulatory operations and maintenance of regulatory documents.
  • Financial procedures for research-related transactions.
  • Interfaces with and maintains positive relationships with research participants for eligibility and recruitment in studies.
  • Attends and participates in various research-focused meetings, reporting on the status of studies for which they are responsible.
  • Participates in site monitoring activities by study sponsors and other groups.
  • Maintains research supplies.
  • Stores, records, logs, and distributes investigational drugs, devices, and other materials.
  • Provides study subject education on the risks and benefits of participating in clinical research studies and information on upcoming enrolling projects.
  • Maintain access to, and providing reporting on, various databases as required for efficient operation of the research team.
  • The DM/RC will take on a pivotal role in the RECOVER/RECOVER Reading Center study:
  • Assist in the development of the MOP and eCRF for the Reading Centers activities.
  • Assist in the development of the data workflow, setup and integration of REDcap activities, ensure adequacy of data transmission and trouble-shooting.
  • Assist in the training of RECOVER sites in PFTs and certifying personnel at the RECOVER sites in optimal performance of PFTs and adequate data transmission using REDcap.
  • Ensure all required elements are available for PFT reporting, work closely with the personnel reporting PFTs, uploading PFT reports in duplicate on REDcap and troubleshooting for the RECOVER sites as needed.
  • Assist PIs/co-PIs in the reporting of PFTs, uploading PFT reports in duplicate on REDcap and troubleshooting for the RECOVER sites as needed.
  • Assist the Research Manager and the PIs/co-I in the QA/QI activities including collecting data on timeliness of data transmission, timeliness of PFT reporting as well as number and quality of PFTs performed at all RECOVER sites.

Other:

  • Participates with research team to identify the development of systems and infrastructure to maintain and improve research quality and compliance.
  • Occasional travel to attend national conferences, study sponsor trainings, and other such meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required:

  • Ability to work well independently as well as in a team environment
  • Must be detail-oriented and meticulous.
  • Demonstrated initiative in our efforts to grow our research portfolio.
  • Strong communication skills with both the public and investigators.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Preferred:

  • Previous experience working in clinical research is preferable, but we are open to training a highly motivated person who is new to research but ready and excited to learn and move into a new direction.
  • Bachelors degree and/or health-related professional degree.
  • Experience with NextGen, RedCap, and other electronic database systems.
