Job Summary:
This job is responsible for assisting Dentists during examination and treatment of patients.
The following is a list of essential duties and responsibilities for this position. It is not all-inclusive, other duties and responsibilities may be added as needed and management may modify this job description when appropriate.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepares the patient, sterilizes and disinfects instruments, sets up instrument trays, prepares materials, and assists dentist during dental procedures
- Records medical and dental history and takes the patients vitals
- Exposes dental diagnostic x-rays
- Builds preliminary impressions for mounting study casts
- Pours, trims, and polishes study casts, fabricates custom impression trays from preliminary impressions, cleans and polishes removable appliances, and fabricates temporary restorations
- Assists the dentists in managing medical and dental emergencies
- Instructs patients in oral hygiene and plaque control programs and records treatment information in patient records
- Provides postoperative instructions prescribed by the dentist
- Schedules appointments, prepares bills, receives payment for dental services, completes insurance forms, and maintains clerical records
- Applies protective coating of fluoride to teeth
- Maintains HIPAA compliance in all aspects of the department
Supervisory Responsibilities
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Education/Experience
- Certificate of completion from a dental assisting program unless otherwise waived by Tribal Council as based on determined experience and accomplishments
- Six (6) months to one (1) year related experience as well as other relevant education or work experience
