Dental Assistant
Job description
The L M Smith Center for Dental Health has an open position for a dental assistant. This is a key position that will assume the responsibility as a trusted clinical partner for the doctor in the maintenance of the dental health of approximately 1200 patients. Duties will be supervised by an over-educated and very experienced dentist who has practiced in this location for over 30 years. Training will be provided in our proprietary methods that create certainty and an effective trusted partner to contribute to our team effort to bring the reality of maintainable dental health to all those we serve. There will be no micromanagement. You will be responsible for the results you achieve according to the standards we set and should expect continual guidance and evaluation to help you achieve at a high level.
Our dental assistant’s duties include all those permitted by the Tennessee dental practice act for dental assisting and will be performed at the direction of Dr. Smith as demonstrated by their capabilities to adhere to the performance standards and philosophy of our practice. This practice operates as a coherent team, in a "we before me" mentality. We all claim credit for our results and each of our job descriptions includes helping other team members in theirs as well as contributing ideas that will make us better. None of this is difficult and any dental assistant that desires to practice in a model focusing on relationships, compassion, and competence will reap the rewards found here. Ongoing training and support will be provided. One of our core values is to develop our team members, not just use them.
By focusing on the dental health of our patients, we have created a proprietary structure that has produced the need to address new diseases in only 13% of our recare patients in each cycle. Our dental assistants are appreciated by a depth of gratitude uncommon in other practices because of the obvious fact they are the essential and irreplaceable health care provider who facilitates the creation of this level of maintainable health. Understanding this, if you want to participate in this model, have the desire to learn these methods, and contribute your ideas to make us better still, we welcome your inquiry. It is lots of fun to be well compensated financially and professionally in an office that truly puts people first.
We provide all the tools and equipment needed for our dental assistant’s safety and to perform at a very high level. These include: Cannon SLR and intraoral camera, digital x-ray sensors and panorex, CBCT, impression material mixing machines, voice activated charting system (Florida Probe), LED operatory lights, Octopus air purifiers, Enviroclens air purifiers, cassettes for our hand instruments, HD mouth mirrors, ADEC chair and stools, ceramic tile floors and windows in your operatory, a separate sterilization room and a clean room, and much more.
As far as time is concerned, we work from 8:30 to 5:30 three days a week, 150 days a year. We will go to a four-day week (192 days a year) when we add a new doctor this summer. We go to lunch from 1pm to 2pm. The office is closed for New Years, Good Friday, Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. We plan additional days around those holidays as individuals and the group agrees. Vacation and sick policy is outlined in the employee manual. Our policy on absenteeism is that family is first. We allow one hour for an adult recall. We see 14 per day. The doctor will know he can check when the hygienists have completed charting, their exam report, and x-rays. This check usually takes about 5-7 minutes and is coordinated with the doctor’s clinical responsibilities.
Here’s the money part: Starting hourly wage for full time is 18/hr. At your 90-day evaluation we will outline a path to $20/hr. Paid holidays are Memorial Day, July 4 and Labor Day. Vacation and sick days are accrued and are paid out at the end of the calendar year if not used. We have a Simple IRA plan, with a 3% match. Dentistry benefit is $1500/yr. Uniform allowance is $75 per quarter. There is no practice health insurance benefit.
