Primary Accountability
Provides quality dental health care services to patients of Moses Lake Community Health Center. Position is responsible for managing dental hygiene and treatment of periodontal disease of patients under direction of staff dentists. The Dental Hygienist works independently and interdependently with the other clinic Providers.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Provides dental hygiene patient care in compliance with MLCHC policies and procedures
- Responsible for assessing and obtaining clinical evidence of patient’s level of periodontal health
- Expose and develop appropriate diagnostic radiographs
- Develop appropriate treatment plan and sequence for treatment of existing periodontal disease
- Treatment of chronic periodontal conditions, including periodontal disease, gingivitis, ANUG and acute periodontal abscess in conjunction with the Dentist
- Treatments are to include mechanical and ultrasonic instrumentation, supra-gingival removal of plague and coronal polishing
- Apply fluorides and other medicaments as necessary
- Assist in identification of specials patient needs, such as antibiotics, rinses or hygiene aids in conjunction with the Dentist.
- Deliver appropriate local anesthesia for patient comfort under supervision of Dentist.
- Perform expanded function duties (amalgam packing and carving, temporary fillings, alginate impressions, temporary crown cementation) as necessary under supervision of the Dentist.
- Educate patients in all aspects of oral hygiene, consequences and treatment options for periodontal disease
- Responsible for complete and accurate documentation in the Electronic Dental Record per MLCHC policy
- Responsible for complete and accurate billing of patient visits per MLCHC policy
- Participates in quality improvement programs including but not limited to peer review requirements
- Clinical Program duties and responsibilities include:
- Suggesting improvements to clinical performance, through evidence-based programs and processes
- Assisting the Dental Director in assuring quality improvement programs are carried out in all clinical areas through the development and implementation of effective disease management programs, clinical protocols and guidelines, other decision tools, and review of the outcomes
- Communicates effectively with patients and all levels of the organization in a professional and timely manner
- Maintain authoritative skill and knowledge in the principles of sound dental hygiene practice

Professional & Technical Knowledge
Performance of the duties and responsibilities of the job requires graduation from an accredited dental hygiene school.
Technical Skills
- Ability to prepare basic correspondence and simple reports in Microsoft Word
- Ability to use Microsoft Excel to create tables and simple displays of information
- Knowledge of the EDR program at a level to train others
- Ability to access and complete data entry in Kronos
Communication Skills
- Job duties require the employee to effectively communicate their opinions and extrapolations of information they collect and synthesize/analyze
- Employees are required to negotiate resolutions to complex situations which may be inherently adversarial
- Job duties require the compilation and analysis of information prepared ineffective written form, including correspondence, reports, articles or other documentation

Work Environment
Work is performed in an office environment within the clinic

Must have reliable transportation and provide documentation of auto insurance and valid driver’s license as required

Licenses and Certifications
Must be able to obtain a Dental Hygienist licensure within the State of Washington
Blood/Fluid Exposure Risk
Category I: Tasks routinely involve a potential for mucous membrane or skin contact exposure to blood, fluids or tissue. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE), when appropriate, is required.
Category II: Usual Tasks do not involve exposure to blood, body fluid, or tissues but may require performing Unplanned Category 1 tasks.
Category III: Tasks involve no greater exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues than would be encountered by a visit. Category 1 task are not a condition of employment.
