- POSITION SUMMARY
- As an integral part of the Imaging team, provides clerical and communication support integrating medical knowledge, clerical skills, staff and patient interaction, and care. A department assistant recognizes conditions essential for successful completion of patient processing and exercises independent professional and ethical judgment.
- KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Communications utilizing phone and paging system.
- Processes patients using the Radiology Information System (RIS).
- Prepares upcoming schedules.
- Assists in maintaining records, respecting confidentiality and follows established policy.
- Assists medical staff with retrieval of information when needed.
- Makes CDs as requested.
- Uploads CDs into Pacs (Picture archive and communication system).
- Prepares patient records for the next day s schedule.
- Reviews & ensures folders the day prior for appropriateness, sends requests for offsite priors when needed.
- REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients and staff members.
- Knowledge of computerized clerical functions within imaging.
- Ability to convey detailed or important spoken instructions and to elicit information from patients, physicians, and other employees.
- Ability to perform routine or repetitive duties working from detailed instructions and under standard procedures.
- Ability to work with frequent interruptions and respond appropriately to unexpected situations.
- Ability to interact with irate customers.
- Ability to interact with physicians and staff and participate as a team member with individuals inside and outside the department.
- Visual acuity sufficient for work which deals largely with preparing data and figures, accounting, transcription, computer terminal operation, extensive reading and visual inspection of small parts/devices.
- Ability to file alphabetically and numerically; general computer knowledge and skills; ability to perform basic math.
- EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSURE
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience: Two (2) to three (3) years of experience in health care setting performing similar work activities preferred.
