Position Summary
The Computer Systems Engineering Technology Department (CSET) at Oregon Institute of Technology seeks applicants for the position of Department Chair to start in Fall of 2023 (an earlier or later start date may be negotiated at time of hire). The appointment will be at least at the associate professor level; highly qualified applicants may be considered at the full-professor level.

The CSET Chair, as departmental leader, liaison, and advocate, is a faculty member within the CSET department who acts as supervisor of the department and as liaison between the CSET department and the college and university administration. The CSET Chair works in coordination with and under the supervision of the Dean to achieve the strategic goals and vision for the Department and College. Other duties may be assigned by the Dean based on strategic priorities of the College and University. These duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Lead departmental growth with respect to students, faculty, programs, resources, academic quality and reputation
  • Create and facilitate the implementation of a strategic mission and vision for the department, seeking to recruit a diverse student body, elevate student success through increasing student retention and graduation, enhance departmental revenue and opportunities through successful partnerships, contain cost effectively, and build the brand recognition of the department, college and university
  • Manage the department’s resources in consultation with the Dean, IR and Budget Offices, recognizing that revenue generation and effective cost control are necessary elements for the department’s viability and success
  • Foster a departmental culture of civility, collegiality, and respect for diversity
  • Lead all accreditation efforts for the degree programs within CSET
  • Work closely with the Dean and the Advancement Office on any activities that involve or have the potential to involve fundraising activities
  • Develop and expand ties and relationships with appropriate partners (including industry, Office for Sponsored Projects, and community organizations) in order to increase opportunities for faculty professional development, student professional experiences and employment opportunities, and equipment donations
  • Participate in teaching of CSET courses, and should have a strong background in C++

Department Summary
The Computer Systems Engineering Technology Department (CSET) at Oregon Tech is currently comprised of 10 faculty members (with 4 additional faculty currently approved for posting). The department offers 3 degree programs: BSCET (ABET-ETAC accredited), BSESET (ABET-ETAC accredited), and BSSET (ABET-ETAC accredited). The CSET Department is located on two campuses; the main Oregon Tech campus in Klamath Falls, OR; and our campus located in the Portland-Metro area. Oregon Tech is the only accredited public polytechnic university in the Pacific Northwest, is one of the top public regional colleges in the western US, and is consistently ranked among the top public universities in the nation for undergraduate engineering programs by US News & World Report.

Additional Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a closely related discipline is required
  • Demonstrated ability to manage an academic department
  • An academic record to support the rank of Associate Professor or Professor

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $90,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
