DIRECT HIRE | LENEXA, KS | DESIGN ENGINEER |Exciting opportunity for New Product Development. Manage the design of products while providing conscious and accountable leadership through rigorous use of lean tools and processes.Great company culture and a very collaborative team. This position is hands on, there are opportunities to design new products, prototype and validate the designs.
Essential Functions and Basic Duties
- Design products utilizing lean product development for lean manufacturing.
- Manage engineering work loads across numerous projects for developing new products as well as periodically supporting legacy products.
- Development of new products to ensure they meet performance, customer, and regulatory requirements, while meeting margins as committed to in the project scope.
- Utilize the First House to guide improvements on existing and development of new products.
- Ensure all product designs adhere to regulatory and agency standards as relevant to the product and market of product (i.e.: UL Standards).
- Ensure designs are such that assembly operator error is not a root cause.
- Use a visual project management system ensuring projects remain on time and within budget.
- Utilize productions quality metrics, customer feedback and warranty data to guide improvements on existing products.
- Identify and implement Continuous Improvement opportunities that improve the product development cycle.
- Actively participates in Policy Deployment and 3-year planning.
- Coordinate and lead project teams to achieve business goals on schedule.
- Lead root cause resolution for product performance issues.
- Be a technical resource for all departments to ensure products maintain the brand image.
- Models the importance of safety within a manufacturing facility.
- Demonstrates excellence in completion of all other duties as assigned.
- Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- 5+ years of relevant engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
- Understanding of fluid mechanics and structural analysis relating to fluid handling equipment.
- Extensive knowledge and experience in various manufacturing processes such as casting, injection molding, machining, metal forming.
- Proficient at 3D CAD (prefer Solidworks) and familiar with FEA CFD software (prefer Ansys).
- Diverse technical background with hands-on and analytical capabilities.
- Strong business acumen to understand the impact engineering decisions have on every aspect of the organization.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and continuously improve engineering standards (design, testing, etc.) and processes. Understand their impact to the entire business.
