POSITION: Development Associate
REPORTS TO: Director of Development
Full time position: 40 hours a week
POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Director of Development, the incoming Development Associate will join a growing and strategic fundraising team committed to elevating philanthropic support for the Alzheimer and Parkinson Association of Indian River County. This individual will play a key role in the building and implementation of a development operations program that is essential to strengthening the organization’s relationship with donors through event coordination, annual appeal support, donor data base management and stewardship. As a collaborative and action-minded individual, the Associate will assist in advancing the overall fundraising and prospect/donor engagement goals.
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Promote the mission, values and vision of the Alzheimer & Parkinson Association.
Event Coordination:
- Participates in short- and long-term planning and management of fundraising events.
- Participates in the development of event budgets, tracks budgets, key results for events.
- Contributes to the development of event marketing and revenue generation plans in coordination with the Alzheimer and Parkinson Association team.
- Collaborates with the Sponsorship group to develop and produce customized benefits and engagement programs for key partners that align the Association’s events.
- Assembles creative and innovative event attractions to maximize the Association’s visibility, sponsor satisfaction, and community engagement.
- Identifies, retains, and develops strong working relationships with key external vendors (venues, caterers, floral designers, equipment vendors, etc.).
Annual Appeal Coordination:
- Participates in prospect identification and research
- Participates in Annual Appeal design and timing
- Manages the workflow and execution of all fund drives, including direct mail and online appeals
- Maintains donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship calendar
- Assists with annual donor communication touch-points including phone calls, emails, and letters
- Supports the Development Committee of the Board of Directors at the discretion of the Director of Development
- Other activities related to fundraising initiatives as assigned
Donor support, stewardship and data base management:
- In conjunction with the Director of Development, develop and implement a gift acknowledgement process that includes segmentation based on giving levels.
- Accurately process all gift and pledges (checks, cash, credit cards, securities, bank drafts, gifts-in-kind, matching gifts) and pledges from donors based on policy and procedures.
- Research, enter and maintain biographical information in fundraising data management system.
- Provide gift/pledge/payment customer service to donors via telephone and email.
- Run reports and process gifts from multiple online giving systems.
- Participate in the donor stewardship program, using strategies that strengthen long- term relationships with major donors
- Facilitates the preparation of stewardship reports required by individuals, foundations and/or corporations according to the established timelines
- This position requires a commitment to quality control, accuracy and the ability to work well across multiple teams
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum 3 years’ experience working in fundraising, marketing or business-related fields. Experience in a fundraising role with a not-for-profit organization a plus.

- Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Able to work successfully in a diverse team environment.
- Ability to recruit, train and motivate community-based volunteers.
- Demonstrated ability in handling multiple projects with deadlines.
- Strong planning and organizational skills.
- Ability to proactively monitor and adjust activities to respond to changing circumstances and priorities to meet goals and proactively address issues as they arise.
- Able to work with others in a team-centered environment to accomplish goals
- Ability to remain composed under stress
- High-level of proficiency with computers, especially database management and Microsoft Office
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and in a confidential manner.
Previous experience in a nonprofit setting or with fundraising/event management preferred
