As an important member of the Advancement team, the Development Officer engages and establishes connections with alumni and friends of the University and encourages them to make financial contributions to support the institution’s mission. The Development Officer coaches, supports, and directly solicits gifts from an array of donor organizations in the community, while also leading regional and national outreach through marketing communications using mail, email, and social media, including crowdfunding.
Throughout each year, the Development Officer leads strategic campaigns to grow the annual fund as well as contributions from community groups like the Ambassadors and Arts Society. Taking the lead in designing new ways for prospective donors to grow their connection with Missouri Western and increase their philanthropic support, the Development Officer will have the exciting opportunity to build the program and put their own stamp on it and the University’s history.

Essential Duties:
- Manage, cultivate, directly solicit, close gifts of up to the low 5-figures from leadership annual giving prospects. Steward those donors. Purposefully transition leadership annual giving prospects to major giving
- Conduct discovery and qualification visits to expand and strengthen each portfolio
- Observe procedures and best practices in promptly entering appropriately detailed contact reports into the constituent relationship management database
- Plan and execute a comprehensive annual giving program using mail, publications, email, social media, crowdfunding, special events, calling programs, grassroots volunteer led fundraising, and direct, in-person solicitations
- Increase annual giving and leadership annual giving donor acquisition, retention, and elevation
- In collaboration with colleagues, design and execute a cohesive plan for retention, acquisition, and elevation of all annual giving donors
- Design, execute, and lead membership-based philanthropic organizations
- Conduct data analytics, plans that best leverage individual audience segments, and reporting on metrics/outcomes
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level
- May hire, train, supervise, evaluate, and terminate student workers or temporary personnel, as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent written and oral communications skills
- Experience managing volunteers and volunteer organizations
- Knowledge of engagement best practices
- Fundamentals of data analytics, segmentation, and reporting
- Knowledge of basic computer skills and programs, including all components of Microsoft Office
- Ability to work with a customer relationship management platform
- Ability to confidently, positively, and effective engage a diverse range of individuals and request their private support
- Resilient and adaptable strategic thinker with demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and adjust to evolving priorities
- Strong attention to detail and a track record of meeting deadlines
- Energetic, positive collaborator who enjoys working with people
- Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a higher-education advancement setting
- Experience with direct, outside solicitation
- Experience with programmatic annual giving or membership acquisition.
- Two years of experience in solicitation, sales, membership organization management, or related fields.
Physical Demands
- Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
