The Director II, Software Architect is responsible for defining new strategic initiatives. The Director II, Software Architect will conceptualize and define high level initiatives and communicate that direction to executives, peers, and subordinates. The Director II, Software Architect is responsible for conceptualizing, leading and coordinating projects from a technology perspective and ensuring that software architecture meets the business needs.

  • Researches, conceptualizes and defines new initiatives using existing platforms or develops new platforms.

  • Defines and develops detailed strategic plans and roadmaps that define and prioritize key development projects for software products.

    • Ensures adherence to product and company long-term vision, focusing on actions that produce results to meet goals for each software iteration.

    • Ensures conformance to internal and external quality and regulatory requirements.

  • Creates/determines the best architecture that meets business needs and satisfies desired requirements

    • Makes critical and sound decisions that define an optimal direction for the implementation, operations, and maintenance of software products

  • Maintains control over the architecture lifecycle by proactively monitoring the adherence of the implementation to the chosen architecture during the software development.

  • Ensures team results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures.

  • Maintains staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees; developing personal growth opportunities.

  • Works with cross-functional teams in the design and implementation of information technology and assists in the training of other information systems personnel to improve their technical skills

  • Maintains safe and healthy working environment by establishing and enforcing organization standards; adhering to legal regulations.

  • Works closely with stakeholders to capture product requirements.

    • Provides architectural design guidelines, lay down coding rules, nomenclatures and design principles.

  • Works closely with executives to explain the benefits and justify the investment in software architecture of the products.

  • Stays informed of technology evolution in both software development as well as computing platforms, research and/or prototype using various technologies as required to understand proper/appropriate use.

  • Specific duties will vary depending upon departmental requirements.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in development software solutions.
  • Strong project management and staff management experience.

  • Expert technical knowledge and problem identification, analysis and solving skills with full technical delivery accountability.
  • Expert knowledge and experience in all phases of SDLC.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze a business opportunity and define a software solution.
  • Expert understanding of object oriented design and programming principles.
  • A professional presence and strong interpersonal skills for interacting in a courteous, timely, and diplomatic manner with all levels of employees as well as other parties/stakeholders involved in the company
  • Ability to assess situations and information, think creatively, devise better ways of doing things and/or innovative solutions, and make good judgments in the execution of job responsibilities
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver successful and relevant architectural artifacts through every stage of SDLS.
  • Superior communication (written and verbal) skills with the ability to translate information into a meaningful, understandable context and message, regardless of the format (e.g., documents, public speaking situations, presentations, etc.)Ability to think strategically about what the company should be doing – generate ideas.
  • Knowledge of the business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Knowledge of business operations, including effective budget development and management processes, as well as the ability to translate strategic thinking into action plans and related outcomes
  • Strong business acumen, negotiation and mediation skills, as well as a demonstrated attention to detail and a focus on achieving quality outcomes. Ability to build/foster relationships.
  • Strong analytical background
    • Logical problem solving and demonstrated ability to organize and move project tasks forward in an orderly and structured fashion
  • Ability to develop new approaches to complex design problems.
  • A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected including the ability to multi-task and work productively in a demanding research environment with changing priorities.
  • This position requires the ability to communicate and exchange information, utilize equipment necessary to perform the job, and move about the office

Standard office environment

The base salary range for this position is $161,600 to $252,500. Individual salaries are determined by a number of factors such as business needs, internal equity, applicant qualifications, skills, experience, and educational background.
