TITLE: Director

QUALIFICATIONS:

• General qualifications of an administrator in the state.
• Master’s degree from an accredited institution.
• Qualifications for Director as required by the State Department of Education.
• At least nine semester hours of adult education courses from an accredited institution.
• At least three years full-time experience in Adult Education.
• Such alternatives to above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO: Superintendent

SUPERVISES: Personnel employed in the assigned school

JOB PURPOSE: To organize and manage a county-wide program of adult and community education: to assume responsibility for day and night, twelve-month operation of the Adult Education Center and the part-time basic classes operating in community outreach centers.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

• Keeps abreast of developments in adult education and educational trends.
• Administers the adult and community education programs.
• Maintains complete and accurate records and prepares required reports on time.
• Supervises and evaluates the work of Adult and Community Education employees.
• Assists in recruiting and interviewing faculty and staff and makes recommendations for employment.
• Assists in orientation of new faculty and staff and students.
• Recommends to the Superintendent the renewal or non-renewal of teachers.
• Prepares a twelve-month calendar of adult and community school activities.
• Works with instructional staff in the selection of textbooks, workbooks, and other teaching materials.
• Assists in preparation of courses and programs.
• Develops, implements, and evaluates the curriculum with instructional staff.
• Develops and recommends the annual budget for adult education.
• Provides counseling, assessment, and placement of adult students.
• Supervises the maintenance of student records assuring accuracy and confidentiality.
• Determines the community needs in adult and community education and recommends programs and goals to meet these needs.
• Establishes and maintains relationships with local agencies to identify common areas of involvement and to promote interest in adult and community education programs.
• Prepares information for the public to foster understanding and support for programs.
• Maintains inventory of property, or equipment for repair or replacement.
• Reports building defects, damage to property, or equipment for repair or replacement.
• Plans and implements staff development for staff members.
• Plans and supervises fire drills and emergency preparedness programs.
• Preparation of courses and programs for multiple site locations.
• Maintains accounting procedures for adult educational funds.
• Research, draft and submit proposals of grants that help the organization obtain funding.
• Other duties as requested.

EXPERIENCE:

Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is desired.

EDUCATION

Master’s Degree(required), SC Teacher Certificate

CONTRACT DAYS: 240 days
