JOB DESCRIPTION

OFFICIAL TITLE: Director of Data Analytics
SUPERVISOR: Interim VP of Operations
SALARY RANGE: Consistent with Salary Schedules
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full time, year-round

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION: Collaborate with Interim VP of Operations to create a long-term strategy and
vision for analytics. Design, implement and monitor the use of real-time metrics, data reports and
dashboards to support strategic decisions at the administrative and school level. Seek feedback from
stakeholders to improve data collection and reporting (data visualization). Provide training and coaching on
using reports and dashboards.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Collaborate with the admin leadership team to define data analysis and reporting plan and
deliverables, school-facing data support, and norms on data practices.
2. Conduct descriptive analysis on outputs from Sheltering Arms student data systems, student
assessments, teacher evaluations, and other organizational data platforms.
3. Develop predictive and statistical models with data to support the early learning, family services
and operations teams in allocating resources efficiently and making informed programmatic
decisions.
4. Support other administrative teams as necessary to determine data visualization needs that can
support the overall priorities of Sheltering Arms.
5. Translate data into relevant insights and implications and support stakeholders in interpreting
findings. Tailor the complexity of analysis appropriately to audiences with various data literacy skills
(center staff, Board members, funders, etc.) Anticipate and empathize with stakeholder reactions.
6. Regularly monitor key metrics and report significant changes or trends.
7. Develop and maintain documentation of data analysis and synthesis methods and processes.
8. Maintain an in-depth knowledge of all data sources and systems, being constantly aware of new
updates and incorporating changes into analytical approaches and data visualizations.
9. Collaborate with Interim VP of Operations and various stakeholders on key metric identification and
ensure adequate collection of data and feasibility of analysis. Suggest new lines of analysis and
work with colleagues to investigate them.
10. Creates an ambitious, yet feasible, plan for ensuring that the organization’s data infrastructure
supports the tools needed to effectively monitor student, center, and organizational progress
towards key goals and priorities identified by the Executive Leadership Team.
11. Build and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders in order to encourage questions and
surface opportunities to provide support.
12. Seek opportunities to increase stakeholder ability to use data. Help to plan for and lead the training
of center and administrative staff on using data systems and interpreting data reports.
13. Work with teammates to analyze current and future data needs of teams and departments.
14. Manage stakeholder expectations around data availability for board and funder reports.

- Strong project and product management skills
- Robust quantitative and analytical skills, including experience working with large data sets to derive
- In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word); advanced skills with Excel
- Enthusiasm for data, analytics, and data-driven decision making
- Knowledge of the education field, including familiarity with current student data systems,
attendance/behavior, etc.)

- Minimum 7+ years professional work experience in field/function, ideally in early learning or other
organization.
- Minimum 3+ years of managerial experience; management of cross functional teams (preferred) or
- Experience with data visualization and dashboard creation tools (i.e., Tableau)
- Experience training and communicating data and analytics products to audiences of varying levels
- Experience programming in data analysis languages and/or software preferred (e.g., SQL, R,
- Expertise in relational database concepts, structures, and management.
