Director of Development

JOB SUMMARY
The Development Director will be responsible for supporting the mission of Anne Carlsen by raising financial support for the organization. This position will manage a portfolio of donors and potential supporters. The Development Director will have the opportunity to share the benefits of annual giving, major-giving, and planned-giving with potential supporters.
QUALIFICATIONS (minimum requirements)
Education and/or years’ experience required:
  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree or five years’ experience of public-facing skills.
  • A working knowledge of basic computer software
  • Occasional evenings and weekend work required.
  • Ability to travel (primarily in-state) with occasional overnight stay is required; may be required to travel by airplane to other states within U.S.
Preferred/Required Skills and Abilities:
  • Successful experience in Development/Fundraising or significant sales/customer service
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge/NXT
  • Experience in planned-giving or trust management
  • Ability to solve problems independently, prioritize multiple tasks, plan, and schedule trips in an efficient manner.
Supervision of others/decision making aptitude (if applicable): This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND ACCOUNTABILITES
  • Build relationships with current and potential donor prospects.
  • Engaging personal contact with current and future donors to discuss opportunities for supporting programs of Anne Carlsen.
  • Manage a portfolio of prospects and supporters.
  • Move donors through “moves management” to the solicitation stage and asking for support at the major gift (over $5,000) level.
  • Solicit major and planned gifts by meeting the individual metrics and goals established with the VP of Development and the Chief Development Officer (CDO).
  • Support annual giving and special events, planned giving and major gifts programs.
  • Connect potential donors with the appropriate legal and financial advisors to assist in gift planning by soliciting wealth managers, estate planners and insurance vendors’ expertise.
  • Coordinate and report on a regular basis to the VP of Development
  • Work in conjunction with staff and volunteers to ensure the highest standards in donor relations.
  • Ensures proposals, actions, contacts, and solicitation strategies are entered in the fund development database.
  • Performs fundraising duties as requested by VP of Development and/or the CDO
  • Adhere to work schedule and maintain regular attendance.
  • Performs Anne Carlsen Center duties as requested by the designated supervisor.
  • Upholds Anne Carlsen Center’s ethical standards and demonstrate the behavioral and service expectations as defined in our policies and procedures.
  • Successfully completes required training and educational requirements per State, Federal, local health codes and Anne Carlsen Center policies and procedures.
