Job description
The University of Virginia School of Medicine (SOM) seeks applications for its Director of Diversity Programs and Strategic Partnerships.
Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, the Director of Diversity and Strategic Partnerships is responsible for connecting the SOM's Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to all stakeholders, on and off Grounds. The position manages the coordination, direction, and policy development of the SOM's Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion programs while promoting diversity to our medical and graduate students in a variety of educational and mentoring programs.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
Manage the daily operations of the Office of DEI, which may include the coordination, direction, and policy development all administrative areas.
Act as a liaison for the Sr. Associate Dean of DEI, Asst. Dean or other senior leaders with internal and external stakeholders.
Work closely with the Assistant Dean of DEI to ensure best practices in URiM Faculty Recruitment to include but not limited to:
Develop Manual(s)
Working with Human Resources to track all active Faculty as well as recruitment (i.e. applicants) processes by department(s) in real-time
Develop short- and long-term planning for the business affairs of the office. Exercise broad fiscal and administrative responsibility.
Facilitate the research initiatives of the faculty and staff.
Organize committees for DEI work along Strategic Pillars (Research, Education, Clinical and Community/Health Equity) including staff, students, and faculty.
Survey/analyze findings (Diversity Engagement Survey) from undergraduate surveys around "belonging" in coordination with University Diversity and Inclusion Office.
Responsible for grant proposals, submissions, and reminders.
Assist with co-support of efforts for the House Staff Diversity and Inclusion office.
Implement and launch staff/faculty internship program focusing on DEI and Health Equity within the University, Health System and our Community partners.
Coordinate mentorship programming for UVA student learners and house staff for the SOM Office of Diversity and Inclusion and Graduate Medical Education program.
Work closely with admissions office within SOM to provide monthly updates of URiM student/applicant status to BIMS and SOM.
Collaborate with SOM admissions office to coordinate students Second Look Visit.
Responsible for submission of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion annual reports.
Develop and publish quarterly newsletter for distribution on the SOM Office of Diversity webpage.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Master's degree in business, accounting, or related discipline
Experience: At least five years of administrative and supervisory experience. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in higher education, business and/or healthcare
Strong communication and analytical skills
Experience providing timely and accurate information to senior leadership
The ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
Strong Attention to detail
Experience working in Diversity Programs
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
Anticipated Hiring Range: $95,000 - $115,000 commensurate with education and experience. This is an EXEMPT level, benefited position. For more information on the benefits at UVA, visit https://hr.virginia.edu/benefits.
