POSITION: Director of Facilities and Operations

QUALIFICATIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting directly to the Director of Business and Finance and the Superintendent of Schools, the Director of Facilities and
Operations must hold a degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Property Management, and/or other related area. The
Director must also possess exceptional communication skills, have strong interpersonal skills, and project management
experience with solid knowledge of regulations and laws. The ideal candidate for this role should also possess broad
knowledge of business functions and have several years of field experience. The outstanding Director of Facilities and
Operations must understand the technical aspects of the property, support day-to-day school operations, ensure efficient
operations of all facilities, mitigate risk, and ensure that all facilities meet the needs of students, staff, and community. The
Director must have the necessary skills to manage and motivate a large maintenance and custodial staff for optimum
performance and efficiency.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee facilities operations including; manage facilities budgets, directing routine maintenance, responding to
frequent site inspections
- In conjunction with the Superintendent must be on call for unplanned emergency situations that arise (including but
- Plan the annual Plant Operations and Maintenance budget and present to administration and to the Board of Education
- Prepare and maintain the Capital Improvement Plan budget and present to Board and Town Committees
- Manage and direct facility functions, creating integrated spaces while minimizing disruption to overall school
- Implement safe working conditions while creating a comfortable environment for both students and staff
- Oversee the programming and function of the energy management systems
- Implement and manage a computerized maintenance management system program
- Oversight of the maintenance and custodial departments which includes training, performance evaluations, and
- Knowledge and implementation of all purchasing procedures, Board of Education and Town of Newtown Policies, and
- Attend monthly Capital Improvement, Facility and Finance subcommittee meetings
- Maintain ongoing professional relationships with community leaders of Newtown, Town Departments, State Agencies,
suppliers, vendors, and professionals serving each school
