CATEGORICALLY FUNDED - POSITION CONTINGENT UPON CONTINUED FUNDING AND BOARD APPROVAL

Woodland Community College is seeking an equity-minded, dynamic, collaborative, and innovative leader to serve as the Director of Retention and Student Life.

BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of an appropriate Administrator, the Director of Retention and Student Life will be responsible for developing and implementing educational, social, and collaborative programs in the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Providing leadership and support for the day-to-day operations of various centers to include but not limited to the Multicultural Enrichment (ME) and the DREAM Centers by creating interactive, affirming, and developmental spaces. The centers are spaces that offer advocacy, programming, and resources positively impacting regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion at our colleges. The Director will develop and oversee programming to retain students at the college. The Director will also be responsible for supporting programming at the Colusa and Lake County campuses.

Essential Duties Summary: REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Provide leadership and guidance for the day-to-day operations of the various centers and programs as directed. including the Eagles Perch.
Oversee and manage student engagement activities and events.
Serve as lead technical expert on culturally specific resources available in the community.
Oversee efforts to educate the campus community and external partners on the understanding of specific barriers which lead to lack of access and engagement and contribute to the achievement gap.
Oversee efforts supporting equity and inclusion as they relate to the centers.
Serves as the liaison to the campus professional development committee to increase awareness of biases, internalized racial superiority and oppression. Leads with a racial equity lens and actively uses the racial equity tool in meaningful ways.
Serves as liaison, provides guidance and collaborates with student organizations, academic colleges, and administrative areas addressing similar issues.
Oversees and participates in equity initiatives at the college and serves as a liaison to equity efforts at the District Office, including the IDEA team, the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee.
Updates the appropriate Administrator, on multicultural student issues as needed within either center.
Updates the appropriate Administrator on Undocu-Scholar issues as needed within either center.
Lead regarding local, state, and federal ordinances and legislation impacting undocumented and mixed documented communities.
Acting lead, advisor, and liaison for the Associated Students at each college. .
In conjunction with assigned staff, provide training and oversight to the student association in matters including budget planning, preparation, expenditures, activities, services, and student elections; and prepares periodic reports.
Oversees, direct and provide guidance to staff on the various programs including the Woodland College Promise Program.
Works closely with Financial Aid to keep updated on California DREAM Act Applications and requirements.
Advises and provides guidance to student leaders with regards to the design and implements programs, special events, and services that support student success and development.
Develops and implements cultural and equity focused educational programming for the broader colleges and its campuses.
Plans, promotes and coordinates overall strategies to retain underrepresented students at each college.
Plans and implements in conjunction with assigned staff First Year Experience for new incoming students.
Leads and conducts targeted, and culturally responsive programming/events designed to further the work of the centers.
Builds upon internal and external relationships within the colleges community to support the colleges Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI) efforts.
Responsible for all technical details for events including publicity, securing venues, presenters, travel arrangements, materials, refreshments, and technology.
Serves as technical advisor to the Diversity Committee and other community cultural initiatives.
Oversees the event planning of Bienvenida Orientation and Si Se Puede Graduation.
Works directly with various boards i.e. the WCC HSI Community Advisory Board and supports the colleges events, as they pertain to the colleges HSI plans.
Supervises student ambassadors and federal work study students.
Develops essential collaborative efforts with college in various centers.
Engages with social media outlets to promote events and initiatives.
Develops assessment tools to determine participants knowledge, insights and needs from programming.
Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE OF:
Laws, policies, and regulations related to community college the Title 5 and California Education Code requirements related to the Student Success and Support Program.
Budget preparation and oversight.
Student services programs.
College matriculation services, including outreach and student engagement.
Principles and practices of personnel management training and supervision.
Working knowledge of the Federal Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
Staff hiring, supervision and evaluation procedures for all employees under the supervisor of the director.
Management skills including planning/development/implementation, supervision, budgeting procedures and broad understanding of critical human relation principles in relation to a diverse clientele.
Computer data entry and retrieval.
Interviewing effectively and obtaining relevant facts.
Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary.
Coordinating and directing the daily support of college students.
Planning, organizing and evaluating program operations and services.
Analyzing, interpreting, applying, and explaining policies and procedures.
Program requirements, guidelines, goals, and objectives of oversight areas.
Organizing and assembling data and preparing reports accordingly.
Training and providing work direction to staff.
District operations, policies, and objectives.
Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles. Operate office equipment including a computer.

Required Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination equivalent to: Bachelors degree or from an accredited college or university AND three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in student services or in a related field, including one-year experience in a lead or supervisory capacity.

Desired/Preferred Qualifications: DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Familiarity with and sensitivity to the needs of diverse students from multi-cultural, linguistic, and socio-economic backgrounds, especially within the context of working within an HSI
Supervisory/management experience in a California Community College setting. Familiarity with related Student Information Systems.
Masters degree in any discipline
Bilingual Spanish-speaking ability is preferred.
Experience with enrollment and retention strategies.

Range/Step: Range 26, Management Salary Schedule

Salary Range: $80,001 - $92,627 Per Year

Benefits Information: BENEFITS/SALARY:
The District offers a comprehensive benefits package for employees and dependent(s), for positions whose FTE is .60 or higher, valued at over $24,000 annually. The package includes health, dental, vision, two (2) life insurance policies and an Employee Assistance program. Additional benefits include contributions to the State Teachers Retirement System (STRS), 457/403b options, 12 sick days, 22 vacation days, 223 day/12 month contract.
