Our company is seeking a Director of Safety & Operational Risk to ensure all colleagues go home safe every day through the implementation and monitoring of strategic initiatives that provide clear and consistent standards and programs that support a culture of Safety.

Primary responsibilities include managing compliance with local, state, and federal health and safety regulations and innovative and effective practices in safety and risk management.

...and has (a):

  • Bachelor’s Degree with focus in Environmental, Health & Safety/Risk/Safety Management, Operations Management, or a closely related field.
  • Thorough knowledge and experience applying OSHA standards and communicating Federal, State and Local laws and guidelines during site visits/audits.
  • Knowledge of EHS guidelines/compliance, expert level highly preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in implementing systems to manage warehouse and/or distribution center operational risks.
  • 5+ years of proven experience in operations/industrial related managerial/leadership role(s).
  • Valid state issued Driver’s License

  • Excellent verbal and written skills with an ability to communicate complex concepts and challenges.
  • Financial risk management and budgeting skills are a plus.
  • Working Knowledge of the Steel Industry is a plus
  • Department of Labor Safety OSHA Standards

What you will do:

  • Ensure that Operations maintains record keeping related to the OSHA safety log and related administrative requirements. This includes Incident Reporting, Compliance reporting, and follow-up.
  • Directs and oversees ALL aspects of the safety functions. Works closely with Regional VPs to ensure all assigned milestones/goals are met at each Branch.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules. Conducts safety inspections and audits to assess employee compliance.
  • Exercises advanced knowledge of health & safety, industrial hygiene, EPA, EHS, and OSHA regulations.
  • Reviews safety training and programs and recommends revisions, improvements, and updates. Initiates policies to comply with legislation and industry practices.
  • Leads Corporate Safety committee meetings. Coordinates with Branch/Operations Managers/Leaders on metrics to make improvements.
  • Work with Human Resources to oversee corporate Workers Compensation reporting and case tracking.
  • Conducts/establishes employee training on: Applicable safety standards, Incident, Reporting systems, Root Cause Analysis, Effective Corrective Actions, Compliance
  • Establishes Safety Committees/regional safety coordinators and drives participation at the Branch level.
  • Reviews accident and incident reports, and works with managers to implement Corrective Actions based on R.C.A.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Expense management:

  • Approves expenses assigned to the Safety & Risk Management department and uses prudence and good judgment on purchases in accordance with the annual financial plan.

Travel:

  • Ability to travel to company facilities to conduct safety inspections, audits, training, etc. Up to 50% of the time.
