The DSD provides new employee onboarding, orientation, and the ongoing training necessary to ensure staff have all the information, skills, education and knowledge necessary to safely perform assigned duties. The DSD must lead by example in a kind, positive, encouraging and professional manner, and supervise the CNA staff ensuring quality care that complies with all laws, regulations and company policies.
Requirements
- Must pass state required physical, and TB test.
- Must be fingerprinted and free of convictions.
- Must hold a current California LVN or RN license, and have either one year of experience as a licensed nurse providing direct patient care in a long term care facility in an addition to one year of experience planning, implementing and evaluation educational programs in nursing; or Two years of full time experience as a licensed nurse at least one year of which must be in the provision of direct patient care in a nursing facility.
- Must currently have California DSD certification or must attend certification program within 6 months of employment.
- Must be knowledgeable of Title 22 and OBRA regulations.
- Must have current CPR certificate.
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English, verbally and in writing, receive written and oral instructions and possess good interaction skills.
- Must be able to safely perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Responsibilities
- Coordinates, supervises and evaluates the total program of orientation of all new employees.
- Continually assesses patient needs in relation to staff needs as a basis for determining priorities in the ongoing staff educational program.
- Plans schedules and documents inservice education and staff development for the improvement of skills of all staff members on all shifts
- Does follow-up supervision of the employee for a reasonable and adequate length of time after a procedure or policy has been taught or reviewed.
- Maintains documentation in the form of: skill inventories, individual learning experience forms, group attendance sheets and Inservice calendars.
- In coordination with the Director of Nursing, supervises CNA’s including, hiring process, evaluations, disciplinary and termination.
- Monitors certified nursing assistants for current State of California certification, as well as, licenses and CPR for other nursing staff.
- Acts as Infection Control Nurse, including but not limited to, documentation, implementation of Program and assesses facility for needs in teaching.
- Participates in Quality Assurance Programs and meetings.
- Participates with the Safety Committee regarding safety and disaster response and coordination of required disaster drills.
- Works as floor nurse as required
- Other job duties as assigned.
