What we are looking for: :
Professional position responsible for providing leadership and support for the work of the 90 plus-member Advancement Board comprised of business and civic leaders.
This board advances the interests of the academic medical center, composed of the University of Kansas Medical Center and The University of Kansas Health System. This is achieved with the collaborative emphasis on building public awareness, governmental support and resource development.
Specifically, the position will work collaboratively with the overall Advancement Board chair, the six volunteer committee chairs (Oversight, Executive, Board Development, Community Affairs, Government Affairs and Marketing), the respective staff liaisons of each and in close collaboration with the Health System’s VP for Fund Development and KU Endowment’s VP for Medical Development.
The Director of the Advancement Board manages executive-level tasks in the areas of correspondence and communications, meeting planning and execution, board member relations, engagement and retention, and other areas of support deemed to be critical to the overall management and continuity of the Advancement Board.
The individual in this position is expected to embrace KU Endowment’s stated core values – passion for KU, partnership with donors, perpetual support for KU, and a people-centered approach – and support the missions of The University of Kansas Health System and the KU Medical Center.
What you’ll be doing: :
- Supports the efforts of the Advancement Board to primarily build public awareness, advocacy and support for the collaborative work of the academic medical center.
- Works in collaboration with institutional executive staff to support the various committees of the Advancement Board. In cooperation with the Oversight Committee and executive staff, directs the planning and execution of the bi-annual meetings of the Advancement Board and committee meetings. Provides staffing oversight for all Advancement Board event/meeting planning and strategic initiatives.
- Works in close collaboration with the respective professional development teams of the academic medical center and with volunteer fundraising groups in prospect identification and donor cultivation strategies to assist with fundraising activities and goals as needed.
- Manages strategic planning and similar, targeted initiatives.
- Responsible for the tracking, assessment, reporting and implementation of activities needed to build strong board participation and engagement.
- Works through VP for Medical Development, VP Health System Development and communications staff to develop printed and electronic media, such as the Board website, e-newsletter, and other marketing, educational and recognition materials.
- Coordinates with the Medical Center operations manager on the use and administration of the Advancement Board’s budget.
- Assists with the supervision of the development coordinator who provides administrative support for this area.
- Performs other duties and completes other special projects as assigned
What’s required to be considered: :
- Bachelor’s degree
- Valid driver’s license
What separates the best from the rest? :
- Minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in not-for-profit work, corporate administration, or a higher education setting.
- Experience working in a team environment is required.
- Experience in providing support for executive-level operations and/or non-profit board management is preferred.
