This is a newly created position for PMI, and the Director will be charged leading, developing, and implementing a political engagement strategy for PMI that will build our political and grassroots presence in the United States (Federal and State). This position will also lead and participate in high-profile EA related engagements to support business, political and policy objectives.

Your ‘day to day’:

• Develop the overall strategy to build PMI’s political presence in the United States, including receiving input from EA colleagues at the federal and state levels, and senior management (U.S. citizens only).

• Be a subject matter expert in elections and the pulse of the electorate, including rules of the road and PMI’s policies.

• Integrate SM’s PAC under guidance of senior management and develop a 2024-2026 election strategy in complement PMI’s business priorities. Lead a cross-functional team to implement campaigns/projects, working with partners, vendors, consultants, and senior internal stakeholders.

• Foster and maintain relationships with industry colleagues, party organizations, political and fundraising consultants, pollsters, analysts, and business political groups to ensure PMI’s political program has the most up-to-date and accurate information to make decisions, maintain best practices and manage reputation.

• In coordination with the External Affairs team, develop political contribution and engagement strategy in line with budgets and PMI policies, including support for state PACs, IEs, and corporate political giving in line with PMI policies.

• Develop and implement new opportunities and engagement ideas for PMI to become involved in political activities and support policy objectives, including:

o Grassroots/consumer mobilizations supporting PMI policy objectives
o Working with third parties to support like-minded candidates through independent expenditures and other funding of C4 organizations, as needed
o Executive giving recommendations, in line with U.S. law and PMI policies
o GOTV options for PMI employees and consumers
o Political polling to support public policy and political strategies

• Serve as a trusted advisor to company senior management on political developments affecting the company.

• Lead high profile engagements for PMI in the U.S. as needed, including in coordination with Communications.

• Proactively present concise and business-relevant political intelligence on pertinent regulatory and governmental issues. Contribute to the overall EA strategy, leading and supporting projects related to expanded U.S. presence.

• Oversee external consultants, budgets, and industry associations in collaboration with internal stakeholders and functional colleagues.

Who we’re looking for:

• 10-15 years of professional experience in campaign, political and/or Government Relations roles

• Bachelor’s degree minimum: no advance degree needed

• Legally authorized to work in the U.S.

Annual Base Salary Range: $188,000 - $258,500
