What You Will Contribute To Altos

The Altos Institute of Medicine will capture knowledge generated about cell health and programming and develop transformative medicines. We are seeking a highly experienced biotech/pharma Non-clinical Leader. The successful candidate is a demonstrated strategic leader who drives innovation to develop new medicines. Critical to this position is engaging actively with the research efforts in the three Altos Institutes of Science, and demonstrating highly collaborative partnerships with stakeholders.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated expertise in non-clinical safety and a broad understanding of toxicology/pathology, ADME, bioanalytical, regulatory, and clinical pharmacology for research programs and early clinical programs.

As a member of the Institute of Medicine Leadership Team, in partnership with the Global Head, Non-Clinical Development, you will play a key role in developing, shaping, and implementing the overall technical strategy of Altos.

  • Contribute to the non-clinical study strategy and execution across the Altos research and clinical portfolio, including experimental approach, data package, and regulatory content to advance our platform technologies and diverse pipeline of development candidates
  • In partnership with IOM Leadership, develop an enterprise view of the non-clinical contributions to Altos' technologies and pipeline, identifying opportunities to increase leverage for the organization
  • Contribute to the design and build out of the organization and resources required for non-clinical studies and filings at Altos ensuring the suitable capacity, infrastructure, business model, and novel competencies to deliver on our emerging pipeline
  • Drive a streamlined operating model aligned with stakeholder needs and cross-functional processes, with an emphasis on clear decision-making, communication, prioritization, and resource allocation
  • Represent non-clinical development during interactions/presentations with regulatory agencies when applicable
  • Selection of partners and study protocol design and oversight of conduct for proof-of-concept, pilot, and pivotal/IND-enabling studies
  • Ensure alignment of nonclinical activities with clinical development, drug manufacturing, and regulatory plans
  • Contribute to a team culture that promotes continuous improvement, ownership, professional growth, and inclusion

Who You Are

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD, Ph.D., or MD/Ph.D. with at least 8+ years of post-training experience in academia, biotech or pharma. Industry experience in drug discovery and development required
  • Excited about identifying and meeting the challenges inherent in bringing drugs with novel mechanisms of action into the clinic
  • Experienced in multiple indication types and addressing regulatory requirements internationally
  • Experience with multiple drug modalities including small molecules, biologics, nucleic acid-based drugs, and the utilization of drug delivery approaches
  • Familiar with the use of genetics and 'omics platforms and the applications of machine learning in drug discovery and clinical trial design
  • Proven capability to lead, motivate and inspire in a diverse, global, cross-functional structure and commit to diversity, equity, and belonging
  • A critical thinker with the ability to analyze possibilities and solutions and make pragmatic trade-offs, as well as a big-picture innovator who can identify opportunities and is comfortable with ambiguity
  • Clear and influential communicator: exceptional influencing skills that demonstrate strong thought partnership and create effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent collaboration skills and ability to build and connect strong teams and build community across Altos
  • Actively contribute to a team culture that promotes continuous improvement, ownership, professional growth, and inclusion

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with academic and governmental organizations in clinical trial design to include experimental medicine and academically sponsored clinical trials
  • Broad experience in the diseases associated with aging


The salary for the Director level is: $278,800 - $328,000
The salary for the Senior Director level is: $361,250 - $425,000
