DISHWASHER/KITCHEN ASSISTANT

Summary:
The Dishwasher / Kitchen Assistant is responsible for the cleanliness and sanitation of the kitchen equipment, cookware, dishes and all service-related supplies.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 1 year of service experience in a restaurant, bar or banquet setting.
- Possess or be willing to acquire an Illinois Food Handler certificate within 30 days of employment.
- Sufficient manual dexterity in hands in order to carry loaded food trays, pick up glassware and bottles, scrape and rack used dishes, sort and stack clean dishes, utensils, cookware and related service supplies in preparation for the next use.
- Ability to speak, and understand the English language in order to communicate with and fellow staff.
- Ability to respond politely, accurately and quickly to staff requests.
- Ability to stand and work in confined spaces for long periods of time.
Immediate Supervisor:
Dishwasher/Kitchen Assistant will report directly to the Head Chef and/or Line Cook.
Essential Functions:
- Collect used kitchenware from dining and kitchen areas.
- Load and unload racked items into dishwashing machine.
- Wash specific items by hand (large pots, delicate serveware).
- Store clean dishes, glasses and equipment appropriately to ensure the availability of clean stock at all times.
- Preparing dining areas and kitchen for next shift by cleaning and restocking dining areas and cook stations.
- Cleaning machines and appliances used in the kitchen such as coffee makers, cutting boards, cookware, grills and mixers.
- Unloading and properly storing food and supply deliveries.
- Sweep and mop floors in the service room and throughout the kitchen and prep areas in the event of a spill during service and again at the end of each shift.
- Remove all trash to the appropriate dumpster throughout every shift and rinse garbage cans at the end of each shift.
