Scope:

Plan, direct, and coordinate the Transportation Logistics within the Common Carrier Division or the activities of organizations that provide transportation services. The Dispatch Manager will report to the Common Carrier Director of Order Fulfillment will serve as a member of the Common Carrier Division Management Team. The Dispatch Manager will collaborate closely with the following teams: Supply, Account Managers, Transport Billing and Pricing, Sales, and Transport Logistics.

Significant Activities & Deliverables:

  • Supervise, train and coach Dispatch team members, including performance management and disciplinary process.
  • Coordinate with Employee Development to manage the recruiting and hiring of Dispatch Team Members.
  • Establish and maintain a robust training program for the Dispatch Team.
  • Continually review and improve the process documentation for all functions associated with the Dispatch Team to create and maintain a “best in class” Dispatch Team.
  • Work closely with other departments to optimize and coordinate full order cycle.
  • Maintain metrics and analyze data to assess performance and implement improvements.
  • Direct activities related to dispatching, routing, and tracking transportation vehicles.
  • Collaborate with various Team Members to formulate strategies for efficient deliveries.
  • Collaborates with Supply, Account Managers, Transport Billing and Pricing to ensure the proper origin for deliveries.
  • Monitor operations to ensure that Dispatch Team Members comply with administrative policies and procedures, safety rules, DOT rules, and government regulations.
  • Ensure continual focus on the customer experience from all team members.
  • Maintain External customer relationships.
  • Monitor and adjust freight rates for External customer to capture optimal profitability for each lane.
  • Monitor spending to ensure that expenses are consistent with approved budgets.
  • Direct investigations to verify and resolve customer or shipper complaints.
  • Handle complaints, settle disputes, and resolve grievances or conflicts, and otherwise negotiate with others.
  • Scale department to meet company growth initiates.
  • Ensure a high-performance department measured by the company’s strategic anchors.

Team Leadership:

  • Provide role and goal clarity to team member(s) and support them in achievement of their goals.

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS Degree and/or 5+ years of industry related experience
  • Proven working experience as a Dispatch Manager
  • Proven cross-functional leadership (internal or external)
  • Strong critical thinking and resolution in ambiguous situations
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Demonstrable ability to lead and manage a team
  • Excellent analytic, problem solving and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects
