Serve as the Distribution Standards liaison supporting the Operating Company to provide uniform and consistent line construction and maintenance practices utilizing approved materials that provide for the safety of American Electric Power’s (AEP’s) employees and the public, while achieving a balance between optimal lifecycle cost and reliability


Brief list of
core responsibilities:

End user and train the trainer training, scheduling, organization and delivery.

Training material development for Distribution Design Studio software.

GSI Designer survey software and equipment and NESC clearance training, organization and delivery.

Testing supported software versions prior to production release.

Development of training and end user training of Distribution drone endorsement skills.

Live real-time support for all supported applications.

  • Demonstrates a strong ability to use technical and computer tools to perform assignments in most cost effective method possible.
  • Ensures compliance with standards, codes, regulations, practices, and procedures in area of assignment.
  • Develops and may assist in the delivery of training to other employees and sections on employee’s area of expertise.
  • May assist in leading the work activities within work group, team, department or other corporate entity as necessary to perform all routine engineering technical assignments.
  • Prepares cost estimates for non-routine work, i.e. special projects
  • Uses records to plan future work
  • Plans, organizes and conducts meetings
  • May plan work and suggests work plans of others to complete non-routine work within time constraints.
  • May coordinate work with suppliers and internal or external customers.
  • Reviews trends of material and equipment performance, and initiate necessary corrective action.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work beyond routine assignments on moderate to complex issues.
  • Seeks to broaden knowledge in areas of the company and industry which will complement acquired technical skills.
  • Leads and facilitates meetings effectively.
  • Networks with peers inside and outside the AEP System. Identifies key stakeholders. Uses informal network to get things done.
  • Develops and presents technical reports clearly, concisely and effectively
  • Uses diverse approaches to make decisions in the absence of a definite framework or where few precedents exist.
  • Makes decisions that may affect the operations or results of the section and which may impact the business unit.
  • Demonstrates the ability to handle conflicting interests related to projects or special tasks. Also demonstrates the ability to analyze options and risks.
  • Exhibits awareness of AEP’s competitive position and how business decisions impact their organizational units.

  • Provides leadership role as assigned to special task force efforts and studies working in team-oriented groups across AEP.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Meets expectations of the Distribution Standards Field Rep level

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of study and four (4) years of related distribution experience in work activities and projects requiring technical engineering knowledge; or

Associate's degree in a relevant field of study and six (6) years of related distribution experience in work activities and projects requiring technical engineering knowledge; or

High School diploma or GED and eight (8) years of related distribution experience in work activities and projects requiring technical engineering knowledge

Valid Driver License is highly preferred.

Physical demand level is Sedentary
