Overview

Provide courteous and professional services to SVDP donors. The position will work with our truck drivers insure prompt, efficient and courteous pickup and delivery service from SVDP donors. This role will also work with staff team to unload all trucks and properly store donated items in an organized manner working in conjunction with the production lead. All donations will be sorted into the correct departments, item type, sizes, etc. The role will also include daily maintenance and cleanliness of the truck, the yard and the warehouse productions areas.

Sorting, stocking and delivering the items to various departments within the warehouse to ensure the success of product movement to the SVdP store floor for items to be sold. Working with an understanding of the full mission of the SSVdP of Central Texas and the mission of “People Serving People”.

St Vincent de Paul Thrift Store in Austin, TX is HIRING! We are looking for reliable, hardworking and enthusiastic individuals to join our Austin store team in the role of Driver Helper and Production Associate. Full-time (30+ hrs) are available.

The Driver Helper and Production Associate is responsible for riding with the drivers each day to offer prompt, efficient and courteous pickup and delivery service from SVDP donors. Upon leaving SVDP for the daily route, the truck helper along with the driver will become the face of SVDP with a courteous and helpful attitude towards donors and delivery recipients.

Upon return to the yard after the daily route, the driver helper, along with truck driver and other associates will unload the truck in coordination with the production lead. This entails sorting items for processing; and maintaining the inside and outside of the warehouse, yard and donation area.

The role may also include traveling on the pickup route to pick up donations. This will include lifting items of approximately 50 pounds with another team member to load into the truck. This position is required to work indoors and outdoors in the cold and the heat. Currently hours are scheduled between 9:00am to 5:00pm Tuesday through Saturday. Must have flexibility to work some Mondays if required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Driver Helper & Production Associate:

• Presents a professional, clean appearance and provide courteous service to all customers and donors
• Offer exceptional customer service to SVDP donors
• Responds quickly to customer service
• Utilizes resources to assist with heavy lifting, such as hand truck, forklift experience (nice to have) or other staff to help
• Assists drivers with unloading of large and heavy donated items and with loading of items for recycling or delivery
• Brings items out to warehouse floor for warehouse staff to price
• Maintain an even flow of products entering the warehouse for production to the floor
• Oversee the cleanliness and organization of the yard and donation drop off area
• Visual acuity to sort items according to department, type, size, and color.
• Follow established procedures to sort/prepare items by factors required by the department
• Ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural environment with a team made of staff and volunteers
• Help maintain an organized, safe, and clean warehouse and production area
• Assist with transferring and receiving items from delivery truck and donation drop off to stock areas.
• Other duties, as assigned.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Associates Degree (preferred) or High School diploma or GED
• Previous experience working in retail, thrift store truck helper or dock area is a plus. Some training will be required.

• English proficiency is required – bilingual is a plus

Physical:

• Frequently lift and /or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds
• Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear
• Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
• Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts, if applicable.
• Occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions

Reliability & Cheerfulness:

· High level of professionalism and confidentiality when interacting with team members and store customers

· Ability to remain calm and focused during stressful situations

· The employee is continuously standing and walking; and frequently bending and twisting; reaching above shoulders with hands and arms; pushing/pulling carts or donations/furniture with use of dolly; and lifting merchandise and objects up to 25 lbs for sales positions and up to 50 lbs for donation positions. The employee must be able to distinguish color tags.
