Overview:
Eating Disorders Psychologist

The Division of Developmental and Behavioral Health is seeking a full-time psychologist to join our dynamic, cohesive multidisciplinary team in the rapidly growing Eating Disorders Center at Children’s Mercy Kansas City. The Eating Disorders Center is comprised of a team of 14 providers and 4 nurses specializing in the medical, psychological, and nutritional treatment of patients with anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, avoidant-restrictive food intake disorder and related disorders.


The center is committed to providing excellent integrated outpatient care to children/teens with eating disorders and their families. Clinical care is offered through two outpatient treatment tracks in the center: family–oriented multidisciplinary team treatment and formalized family-based treatment (Maudsley approach); as well as inpatient medical stabilization at Children’s Mercy Kansas Hospital.


The center’s psychologists also are active in collaborative research and provide training and supervision through the APA-accredited psychology internship and APPIC fellowship. The center’s psychologists also train medical residents and fellows through academic appointments through the University of Missouri- Kansas City. This position offers the opportunity to participate in program development related to treating binge eating disorder and developing intensive outpatient treatment programming.


Primary responsibilities include:
evaluate children/adolescents with eating disorders and their families in an outpatient setting; actively collaborate to provide integrated psychological care as a member of the center’s multidisciplinary team; assist in further developing programs and implementing empirically-based treatment modalities such as CBT, DBT, FBT, and ACT; serve as a consultant to Children’s Mercy medical staff and community providers participate in Children’s Mercy medical staff and UMKC School of Medicine committees and service.

Applicants must have:
  • PhD in clinical child psychology or clinical psychology
  • completed an APA-accredited internship
  • completed a post-doctoral fellowship focused in clinical child psychology, pediatric eating disorders or other relevant area
  • expertise in providing evidence-based treatment for eating disorders (e.g., CBT, FBT, DBT, ACT.)
  • experience working with families with significant psychosocial stressors
  • license-eligible in the states of Missouri and Kansas
  • certification by the American Board of Professional Psychology within five years of employment.
The position carries an academic appointment at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine, with rank commensurate with qualifications and experience.
