Job Description:
(1 - 2 days on-site/weekly preferred)
(Client open to Southern California Remote Candidiates)
- Acts as editor of Client's Magazine online presence, focusing on how best to leverage content
- Develops and shapes digital-only content for magazine and posts to the online news site
- Determines how best to adapt and shape the print materials for online, focusing specifically on how to enhance their content for the digital space
- Works with the Creative Director and/or Graphic Designer to ensure cohesion between the visuals and the editorial content of digital-only content, as well as between the print and online magazine
- Works with Magazine’s Interim Editor-in-Chief to create and manage a schedule specifically for online-only materials
- Consults on social media efforts in collaboration with the Social Media team
- Creates "Online" column for front of book in each issue of the print magazine
- Assists with production of the website and newsletter: Posts breaking news, feature stories, videos, events, press clips, images and other content on the news website.
- Posts news and feature stories, videos, photography and other content and campaigns on the website homepage, including hero module, secondary feature story module and content for news and events sections.
- Assists in layout of digital newsletter, including writing editorial copy for index page, cropping images, embedding videos, and creating special graphics and feature modules as needed.
Writes (as assigned or as needed):
- Features and other content for online and other publications
- Original, marketing-focused web content for use across the Client's homepage and secondary pages.
- Feature and breaking news stories for use on Client website and newsletter.
- Post-event coverage
- Institutional stories highlighting the Client's efforts in education and outreach
Requirements:
- 3 - 5 years in similar capacity (news writing, feature story writing, editing, fact-checking, interviewing)
- Portfolio/Work Samples required (long/short form, press releases, blog)
- Strong Storytelling
- Experience with WordPress, Indesign, Photoshop, CMS
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment with deadlines/competing priorities
- Ability to work independently and handle ambiguity as necessary
- Enjoys creative discussion and team collaboration
