Electrical and Amphibious Ship Controls Subject Matter Expert III in San Diego, CA.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide engineering technical support for U. S. Navy ship’s Electrical and Amphibious Ship Control Systems which includes the following systems, subsystems and equipment: New and existing electrical cables, Power and lighting circuits and distribution, 4160 VAC, 1000VDC, 450VAC, 115 VAC, Marine electrical systems, Automatic Bus Transfer (ABTs) switches, Transformers, Ship Service Diesel Generator (SSDG) and Main Propulsion Diesel Engine (MPDE) Controls, Gas turbine, steam turbine, and diesel generator sets including exciters, Electric/digital/hydraulic governor control systems, Synchronizer controls and the systems that support the operation of the system, 400 HZ Converters and associated equipment, Degaussing systems and associated equipment/cables, Electric/electronic control, detection, alarm sensing, indicating, and monitoring systems and equipment, Propulsion generators, motors, Auxiliary Propulsion Motors (APM), Hybrid Electric Drive System (HEDS), and associated controls, Battery chargers, power supplies, line voltage regulators, Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS), and batteries, Auxiliary motors and controls including automatic speed control, and associated controllers, Switch gear including instrumentation, controls, circuit breakers, reverse power relays, load shedding devices, Multi-Function Monitoring (MFM), Generator Protection Module (GPM) and No Break Power Supply (NBPS), Miscellaneous systems such as Lube Oil Purifier Heaters , Vent fog precipitators, and Helicopter Electrical Servicing Station/Aircraft Electrical Servicing Station (HESS/AESS), Cathodic Protection, Impressed Current Cathodic Protection (ICCP), Motor generator sets including voltage and frequency regulators and monitors, Machinery Control Systems on DDG 1000, LPD 17 and LSD 47 Class Ships, Ballast/deballast control systems on LPD 17, LSD 47, LHD 1 and LHD 8 Class Ships, All associated system controllers (for ex. Gun Control) that require electrical monitoring (utilizing power analyzers) or troubleshooting outside of systems/equipment identified above.
  • Provide assistance, training and technical subject matter expertise in electrical and amphibious ship controls systems maintenance and repairs to ships’ force military personnel during FTA, TSRA, INSURV, TMI assessments, and CMO events.
  • Complete assessment or Technical Assist, and provide repair recommendations to the branch head in a Report or TAVR format as required for review and issuance on the equipment.
  • Conduct ship visits to provide technical guidance for repairs, troubleshooting or testing as requested for urgent or routine requests.
  • Review the adequacy of the onboard ILS, PMS, PQS and validate the current equipment configuration.
  • Conduct on-the-job training for Ships Force Maintenance personnel. The training must include adjustments, repairs, troubleshooting techniques and equipment/personnel safety.
  • Communicate with and conduct a debrief of cognizant Ships Force personnel reporting conditions found, repairs completed and/or required and training conducted with current operational condition. Any unresolved conditions must be briefed to the ship’s Commanding Officer and Chief Engineer with corrections required.
  • Submit a Ship Visit Report to include the assessment of the material condition and operational status, following the standard report format used by the Branch.
  • Assist with the research and technical resolution of DFSs.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 8 (eight) years’ experience with U.S. Navy shipboard electrical and controls maintenance and repair
  • Ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Marine Electric Propulsion / High Voltage Electrical Safety certified

ADA Notations:

  • Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces
  • May ride ships at sea for extended periods
  • Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States
