We are seeking a highly motivated Electrical Engineer II to join the digital hardware design group within Mission Systems Communication Products Engineering. This position is located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. This position focuses on circuit board designs for digital hardware in communication products.

This engineer will design and develop digital hardware circuit boards used in high performance communication products, such as sophisticated software-defined radios and data links. The Electrical Engineer will develop digital hardware designs that utilize common digital components, such as FPGAs, Microprocessors, and memory. This position encompasses new design and product sustaining support roles. The selected candidate must demonstrate a technical understanding of basic signal level circuits and will work closely with other staff members to assure defined requirements are consistently met in all phases of a product's lifecycle. Primary assignments will include use and application of electrical engineering principles and techniques to design, develop, document, verify, support, and troubleshoot digital hardware for communication products. We are looking for candidates willing to collaborate, innovate, and team with our engineers to generate and utilize today’s cutting-edge technology to design digital electronics circuits.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Circuit card design including hardware designs with high-speed processors, FPGAs, high speed memory, and industry interfaces, such as Ethernet, I2C, SPI, and UART.

  • Perform circuit card design lifecycle activities including requirements capture, schematic capture, design documentation, signal integrity analysis, creation of board stackup and routing instructions, coordination and review of printed wiring board layout, creation of test plans, root cause analysis, and integration.

  • Test and troubleshooting of electronic circuitry. Includes support lab of design verification testing for circuit card assemblies

  • Perform trade studies as needed and select components necessary to implement the requirements

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.

  • Must have or be capable of obtaining a U.S. DOD Secret Clearance. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and 2 years of prior relevant experience OR Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering

  • Digital circuit design experience with background in and understanding of Electrical circuit design principles

  • Experience with schematic capture of electrical circuit designs. Includes familiarity with a schematic capture tool (examples may include Mentor Graphics xDxDesigner and/or Xpedition, Altium, Cadence Allegro, EAGLE, KiCAD, etc.) for creation of circuit card designs.

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of prior relevant experience OR

  • In absence of a degree, 6 years of relevant experience is required

  • Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations
