- Master’s degree in nursing or health Care Leadership
- BLS, ALCS certification
- Competent in basic computer skills
- 3 years of ED nursing experience.
- Health Care Leadership experience preferred.

Job Description:
The emergency department manager will provide direct and indirect provision of professional nursing care of the patients and accountability for all nursing staff and personnel functions in the emergency department. and clinic. The manager will also provide leadership, management accountability and assist in promoting evidence-based practices. In addition, this manager will also lead initiatives to foster a patient-family centered environment and transform care delivery.
Duties Include:
People:
- Supports the mission, vision and core values of the organization.
- Promotes an environment that supports best nursing practices and fosters transformation of nursing.
- Provides leadership for the Emergency Department, establishing staff assignments and departmental schedules to meet organizational goals.
- Contributes to team efforts and using appropriate conflict management skills proactively to resolve intradepartmental and interdepartmental grievances/concerns.
- Selecting, hiring and training department staff; leading orientation of new departmental personnel.
- Develop standards of performance, clinical competencies, monitoring and supervising staff.
- Evaluating staff performance and making recommendations for merit increases and disciplinary action.
- Organizes regular staff meeting for the purpose of communicating pertinent information for staff.
- Directing day to day functions of the department in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern these areas.
- Provides appropriate delegation and follow up.
- Participates as an active member of the Valley ED Council
Stewardship:
- Providing fiscal management by developing and recommending departmental operating budget.
- Able to discuss variations from budget.
- Ensures adequate resources are available for provision of quality patient care, including staff, equipment, facilities and supplies.
- Reviews and approves e-time for employees.
- Helps ensure appropriate charges are applied to patient accounts.
Quality:
- Leads the strategic planning for the department in partnership with the Medical Director.
- Develops standards of performance, monitoring and supervising staff. This includes review of nursing documentation for appropriate documentation per standards.
- Ensures a safe, clean environment.
- Leads/supports the performance improvement projects within the department.
- Uses A3 thinking as the approach to improvement efforts.
- Involves team members in improvement projects.
- Ensures all quality metrics and outcome measures are understood, shared and evaluated within the department, looking for areas of improvement.
- Supports the regulatory goals of the department and organization.
- Ensure survey readiness within the department by conducting routine tracers and EOC rounds.
- Provides timely investigation and follow up to safety events and good catches.
- Ensures all departmental policies and procedures are reviewed on an annual basis.
- Works collaboratively with the department Medical Director in setting goals for the department. Routine evaluation of these goals is done.
- Works collaboratively with medical team, House Supervisors, and other disciplines to promote quality, safe patient care.
Experience:
- Regular rounding within the department that includes checking in with staff.
- Rounding daily on patients within the department, ensuring their experience is excellent. Follows up on patient concerns in a timely manner.
- Works closely with Patient and Guest Experience with complaints and grievances.
- Provides emotional and clinical support to staff, patients, and their families.
